Design Dilemma Kitchens

Does anyone have Makellos kitchen cabinets? If so, do you like them?

I’m thinking of getting Makellos white shaker caninets. It’s an RTA line with comparable materials & design (birchwood frame, plywood shelves, MDF middle panel, 6-way Euro hinge, soft close) as more well known brands. i’m hoping for feedback from people who have them. Thanks!!

No name no warranty Vietnamese Chinese Malaysian Mexican imported junk is a dime a dozen. And none of it worth owning.

Their materials and how they are designed/put together is just like more well known brands like Fabuwood (made in Vietnam) and CNC. … Do you have Makellos? I’d like some feedback from someone who owns them

Whelp I got the project mostly done. I need better latches on the upper cabinet doors as the cat Abby has decided I put that there for her to open doors and climb up into. GGGGRRRRRR Both pieces were on wheels !!!! All furniture should be on wheels. LOL The old stuff has come from all over. I remember the hooser came from a liquor store in Challis. Just some thing they were selling on the side.Most of my stuff really is just junk. Yard sale stuff thrift store. I still need to fine tune things in studio and kitchen but already Hoosier is great where it is and the ability to easily get to the appliances is a big help. Not that getting them from a shelf below cabinet is all that hard. For me now it is. sigh. Good news is my hands are getting better. This has been pretty miserable. I am going to jazz up the hoosier a little bit. I am not at all concerned to devalue it as it is not a good one. Crappy wood not pretty oak. Painted and all. Then I will get a picture. Adding fru fru to the top is out of the question Again Abby has her own opinion on what belongs up there and has cleared it twice already of what she does not like. This dang cat is more like an Orangutan than a sweet little kitty.

Bamboo Kitchen Cabinets - anyone have them?

M- Okay. (long breath drawn in)... FIRST and foremost, has your local cabinet maker worked with bamboo before???If so, please go see his work in real life. (not just photos). If not, you might want to rethink this. With this kind of money, you do not want to be somebody's guinea pig. Next, he will probably order the bamboo panels from plyboo. www.plyboo.com On their site you will see the various choices, natural vs. amber color, edge grain vs. flat grain. jdayo and I have amber edge grain - i will post photos just as soon as i can get electrician out of my space! with flat grain you will see more of the bulky knots. With edge grain you will get a narrower grain and you will also get that really cool edge detail on the sides of your doors and drawer fronts. Also, make sure you have a very good carpenter to install. when you cut in to the bamboo (for trim, lightrail, etc) it can splinter really easily. you have do do it VERY carefully, very slowly, and with masking tape across to reduce any chance of splintering. i learned this the hard way. You also have to ask your installer to make sure that the grain matches up , say, if you have a set of three drawers on top of each other. they might not think of that. (notice to the left of jdayo's freezer). Rift cut oak is really pretty! Henrybuilt uses it as well as bamboo, and for some reason their bamboo cabs are cheaper! do a search on this site for "henrybuilt kitchen " - you'll see another similar bamboo look. one more thing, make sure your guy orders a big enough batch for you job, including unexpected extras. there is no color stain on the product, the amber is naturally carmelized, and you can end up with lighter or darker batches. Does anyone have Mont Blanc quartzite? If so, would you post pics?

@Thao Le I like the subtle sheen of your honed Mont Blanc quartzite countertops. Please share whether you have had problems with staining? If not, kindly share what type of sealer you used. I plan to use Mont Blanc for my upcoming renovation but given the porosity, I want to be sure my contractor uses a sealer that is proven to properly 'impregnate' the stone to prevent staining.

I have been doing this a long time and you get what you pay for. I have installed Siematic and Baulthorp in the past with NO problems. Always check the manufacturer's warranty.

They do not even tell you what wood they use these are made God knows where and usually any warranty is useless from cabinets made in Asia Go Ikea at lest you get a warranty that can be used and the quality IMO the best for the price anywhere . I have used them in my designs for 22 yrs and had one warranty issue solved in the store in an hour .

Thanks. The Makellos cabients are birch wood (with plywood shelving). my understanding is that most cabinet warranties (for just about every brand) are limited to hardware… plus any dents and issues upon delivery

Buy something from a decent mid grade American produced line rather than cheap import crapola. Mid grade cabinets and higher quality have LIFETIME warranties.

I’ve founf in my research that these ”lifetime” warranties are more like limited lifetime warranties. So wear and tear isn’t covered. The fine print for cabinet warranties reveal that essentially only nicks and issues upon arrival with cabinets are covered. Anything else (other than hardware issues) are not going to be covered down the road.

You don’t know what you are talking about. Ive has an entire 9 year old KM kitchen replaced because of a bad batch of paint. Wholesale drawer glide replacements for 13 year old Aristokraft, which isn’t even mid grade. Etc. A good line has less problems to begin with, but they do back them for a lifetime. Of course they do not warranty against stupid things homeowners do like letting kids play field hockey in there or cleaning with gallons of water.
