Glass Shower Enclosure advice
Comments (4)We used 3/8" glass for our guest bathroom shower (the only bathroom for which we got a glass enclosure). We "up-charged" by using starphire/starfire glass to preserve the whiteness of the tile when looking through the glass, and we added Clear Shield (fabricator applied product vs Shower Guard, which is done as part of the glass manufacturing process). Even though the shower doesn't normally see much use beyond a week or two each yr when my parents come to visit, we have hard water, so an ounce of prevention gives us piece of mind (that the glass is protected against clouding/etching). We keep a squeegee and after shower spray in there when the shower's in use as well. We also went with a slightly taller enclosure height; the clips would have hit right in the middle of our border tile mosaic at the lower height. The 3/8" thick glass feels very sturdy, and substantial, not flimsy or rickety in the least. DH and I used that shower exclusively while our other bathrooms were being reno'd, and we were very happy with functionality of the shower door/enclosure....See MoreFrameless Glass Shower Door Swing Dilemma - Please Look and Help
Comments (38)with 3 young boys I really wanted a urinal in my house, space doesn't allow it and my husband thinks it's a terrible idea. When I dream about installing one I think of all the clean up it would save. Though my boys are being trained to clean up after themselves - I think my 89 yr old is pretty good at it but my 5 yr old and training 2 yr old are not nearly as efficient as necessary. I am one woman who thinks it's a great idea! Rachel...See Morepony wall or no? freestanding or alcove? slightly crazy...help,please.
Comments (16)Just go for where everyone is headed, and purchase a "walk in tub". You will like that alot more in 10 years, than you will ever THINK about using the 'washtub' tub, you are looking at now. And than you won't have to update that bathroom again ? Also, try to create a shower that you can roll into. Seriously. It takes some engineering but you want the opening into the shower as large as possible, for one thing. ...Than, look into using faux marble for your shower sides, do not use fiberglass or tile. DO use the great mold free backboard all over you bathroom before adding the tile wall treatments or faux marble. Use faux marble on ALL the windowsills too. You will not be sorry. It is the best economical choice and it lasts FOREVER...unlike tile and grout.....Just somethings I wish someone had told me way back when... I just saw this idea for the first time. Certainly takes the EXPENSIVE glass or tile enclosure, and the cleaning of that, out of the shower along the wall. Comments (9)Thanks for the input. I just measured my master shower door and it's 28.5". I think I will plan for a 26" door, swinging inward and outward. I like the idea of the pony wall being a little bit longer and just leaving the 26" space for the future door. My contractor is very thorough and will be sure to block for a door and grab bar to be installed in future if desired. Definately will put the controls in the pony wall like we did in master. The depth of the room right now is 64" from the current finished shower tile to the wall. So without encroaching on the 30" space for the toilet, we could get a 34" depth shower. That's still pretty small, but don't see a way to make it deeper without expanding the scope and $$ by stealing space from adjacent attic. If money were no object we would look into doing that. I'll ask the contractor about it, but I don't think budget will allow....See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
