Your Canvas - My Guest Bedroom
Comments (43)Hi, I find guest rooms to be the most fun to decorate because you can sort of make it your dream room that stays clean all of the time :-) I second Lynn's suggestions and would let them know in advance if you are going to have a hairdryer or iron in case they are inclined to pack it. I'm sort of a linen junky and decorate my rooms around my duvet covers. We're in New England so down is a must (and down alternative works great too!). I own the Sienna Paisely duvet and love it, however, when I brought it home it almost had a yellow undertone to it. I have a very neutral room so I ended up bringing in yellow accents and it looks great. I also own the PB Painterly Paisley in blue and that looks fabulous with beige/tan. You may want to look at that one as it will probably go with your existing wall color. I believe it's on sale now and I also tend to find good duvet deals on ebay. Oh and I would definitely try making the headboard dark!...See MoreMaster bedroom ideas...I need input please
Comments (4)Thanks Loribee, I'd like a mirror, but I also love when people have mirrors behind the bedside tables. I'm wondering if that would look good. It's hard to think of what would go over the bed too. Because the bed is so ornate and big and the ceiling is high. I have such a hard time picking art. Beth P....See MoreGuest Bedroom Help
Comments (7)The current arrangement does not appear to be the ideal solution. It looks like the bed and nightstand were just shoved aside to clean under the bed. If you are going to keep the bed angled, getting a round nightstand would be better than a square one. Since this is a guest, room one of the wide dressers could be eliminated and the bed placed on the big wall where the dresser now sits. I do realize that guest room dressers are often used for out of season storage so maybe you prefer to have two dressers and need them. In that case I would put drapes on the windows and put the bed in front of the window. The drapes would form a nice backdrop when closed and since the headboard is low the light and view would not be hidden when they are opened. This can look very nice. In fact some people even put up drapes behind the bed to give the illusion of a window where none exists. With a new furniture arrangement, I would put the lamp from the tall dresser on the nightstand and eliminate the two floor lamps by the bed. A lamp on a night stand is easier for someone to use while in bed and the floor lamps look a bit cluttery next to the bed. Put one of the floor lamps next to the chair and use the other one in another room. You have a very pretty room and I love your mix of furniture styles without going all "Shabby Chic" overload. I love your bold choice of wall color too....See MoreGuest Bedroom Help
Comments (8)In my guest rooms I have a comfy chair with a reading light behind it. I don't have chests of drawers in one room but I do have one of those folding suitcase stands that you find in hotel rooms. People who are only staying one or two nights usually don't fully unpack and having a stand allows them to live out of their suitcase if they wish. I also have a small bookcase where I keep a few books with ideas about places to visit locally and a few menus from local restaurants for people who won't necessarily be taking all their meals with us. I also keep a notepad and a container with a few pens and pencils in it. A trash can and place to charge computers, tablets, and phones is really appreciated. I also have printed up some cards that allow us to enter our home wi-fi password and directions for using our keypad locks so people don't have to wake us up if they come in late or leave early....See Moretracefloyd
