Should I add another window box?
Comments (11)Sailorgirl, I do not think I'd put another window box under the triple big window set. Nope. If you want another one, go to the far left set of double windows. What I'd do instead with that triple set of windows which has the picture window, is create a totally different framed garden vignette. Something like a very large and layered water fountain, maybe two layers, something white or maybe gray. It would be apparent that the picture window has the center stage framing this beautiful feature. And then I'd put the potted seasonal plants around the fountain...or bird bath, if you can find one big enough.. It would give enough substance to the spot to really give a POW to your front approach. You have a lovely yard. I do not think you need window boxes under that long row of windows. It would tend to make people wonder how it was being held up. And it would create a never ending chore trying to keep the boxes looking good. You'd be better off, and so would your plants, if they were in the ground, or sitting in pots around that fountain. Even a brick circular walk around the fountain would be neat and fit in well with your long straight brick path to the front door. Comments (24)I see...thank you Mark. I do like that idea. I had a friend who dabbles in design and remodels a lot come by tonight and she had another thought...shorten the shower pan by 12" to accommodate more tub space, add a wall of glass from the outside wall (your long "L") and leave open (or put in a door) on the side of your short "L" . She favors the freestanding tub for the looks. I'm not sure what to think. Unfortunately I am late with my concerns. The framing was last week and the trusses will be finished up tomorrow. I asked these questions of our PM 3 days ago and will be meeting again on site Tuesday with the PM and site supervisor. I can ask that these can be brought up with the designer too. Thanks everyone for all your thoughts. It is wonderful to reach out to you and get good advice from you all. I wish I had done this earlier!...See MoreShould we keep our block planter?
Comments (15)My vote would be to leave block planter & work with it. From lowered depth view of the planters sitting in it looks like it needs a good amount of soil added to it before planting. To cover the wall, tall & substantial trellis structures could be added at several key spots, the area you‘ve highlighted with green circle for one. This would give the long narrow area a place for plants with height that aren‘t trees & things that will spread out into your yard space. Vining plants such as bougainvillea on the trellises could be show stoppers for color & continue your tropical theme. Once you have that long planter filled, and also have your ground base either filled with grass or hardscape, you won’t even see the planter! Right now it’s empty so it is the focal point & all that sun bouncing off the wall & planter is hard on the eyes...See MoreWindow placement new construction?? Should I add another window
Comments (24)I agree with Patricia that adding window/s to the master bedroom is a great idea--it's always a must for me to have cross ventilation and light in any room, especially a bedroom. But I'm not a fan of adding it as per your plan, with the bed not centered on the wall. Either add two windows, one on either side of the bed, or add a large one in the center of the wall and place the bed between the windows on the other wall. You also need to consider how that will impact the exterior, so discuss this with your architect or builder. The kitchen is not an optimal use of space, which Mark has commented on, due to the cramped space with the angled sink and tiny island. From your rendering it seems very small compared to the giant living area....See MoreHU-323176528
