Which rose would you buy a raffle ticket for?
Comments (16)Thanks so much for all of your feedback, Rosefolly, you're right about M.A.C being a p.m. magnet here and easy to find so I've scratched her from my list. The idea of taking cuttings from the more rare roses is a great idea; I'll take 3 cuttings from cl. Florence Bowers' Pink Tea while I'm at it, along with 2- 3 of the following. Westside Road Cream Tea Clementina Carbonieri R. moschata cl. K.A.V. Mme. Jules Bouche (of all the H.T.s I've ever rooted this one was in the top 5 of having the highest percentage of strikes) If I have room in my rose rooting bed, I'll take a cutting from each of the roses that you've all kindly mentioned such as ' Souvenir. de Pierre Notting, Catos cluster, and Lady Hilingdon, thanks again Lux...See MoreHow Do U Overwinter Zone 5 & Colder Roses?
Comments (9)Terry, I've long since changed to hardy shrub type roses that require little if any winter protection. The few hybrid teas I have, have proven their ability to survive with minimal protection. When my garden consisted of all hybrid teas and floribundas I used paper collars around the base and filled them with shredded leaves, compost, soil, and any other protection I could find ( I had over 500 plants). I also built styrofoam boxes over the beds but that's a bit of overkill unless your roses are planted close together in beds designed for that purpose. I even went so far as to build a large unheated poly house over a large part of my back yard over a number of rose beds. Most important is preparing for winter when you plant your bushes. Bud Unions should be planted 4-6 inches below the soil surface and avoid buying cold tender plants. In our zone, even with winter protection, you'll still experience dieback which will require lots of severe pruning each spring. Climbers will tend to be tall bushes unless you bury the canes. Tree roses will have to be buried or pot planted and moved into an unheated garage or shed each winter. All is not doom and gloom. I grow over 400 roses but have chosen the proper types that survive with only shredded oak leaves at their bases....See MoreWhich Model Tapmaster Do You Have - Would You Buy it Again
Comments (39)(Started new thread, should have added to this very helpful one). We find the foot lever is hidden under our standard toe kick right of center, it is easy to use and comfortable on bare feet. In my part of Florida, the cold water tap is rarely colder than 72 degrees, in summer it is closer to 80. I'm happy washing hands and produce and doing all other prep tasks, including light washing, with cold water only. So I saved a few bucks and had the tapmaster 1776 installed, after ascertaining that I could later use parts to convert it to a 1775 if it didn't work out. But it is working out great! I keep the (single) handle all the way over to "cold" and no water flows unless I "tap". If I wanted hot only, I could use the handle to get it. If I wanted a blend, I'd have to engage the tap and adjust the handle. The guy at conserve-a-store was happy to get the friendly and helpful folks from Canada on the phone when I called to inquire, and they all agreed it was worth a try. I'm enjoying this so much I may well need to get them for the cleanup sink and bathrooms....See MoreWhat climbing rose bush would look good here, zone 5?
Comments (32)My ND rose is doing ok, it has sent out a few really long stems..I’d say about 5’ -6’ long...but only like 3 of them so far...I put it in a place next to my ugly chain link fence so it could get as big as it likes because the more it hides that fence the better...this will be it’s 2nd full year in the new spot, so I’m sure I’ll see more growth from it this year...as far as that area...idk if I’m going to put any roses there...ideally I’d love to, but we already have a ton of bees near the pool and I think putting more flowers will just bring even more...I love bees don’t get me wrong, but I don’t love them buzzing around my head when I’m trying to relax by the pool...and my yard seems to have all the aggressive types..so not only cute little bumblebees..I have those huge black and white hornets, yellow jackets, and these tiny little black ones that sting like a b***h!! So I more want to discourage them there, than encourage them lol...which stinks because it’s a perfect area for a nice climber :’(...See Moremmmm12COzone5
