If you can't wait to try "bliss "
Comments (18)Modestgoddess tipped us off that RU has Bliss (thank you!) & I'm already in the habit of emailing Pat about any rose of interest, listed or not. Emailed last week to ask if she's still shipping & she said yes, since her weather's been a bit cooler than usual lately, so she'll be shipping Monday. Like you, Lilyfinch, looking for a few more before the shipping season shuts down due to heat. Also have my eye on a couple in Heirloom's current sale - their long shipping time (7-8 days door to door) doesn't irk me as much as their stripping the foliage does, still undecided. If you're in the mood, encourage you to email Pat pronto as her shipping window may close any day now. Sue...See MoreSpirit of Freedom and Young Lycidas
Comments (10)Young Lycidas (Ausvibrant), an English shrub rose bred by David C. H. Austin (UK, before 2008) and released in UK (2008) and US (2010). The 4-inch deep pink old-fashioned blooms have strong fragrance. If you want to grow a David Austin rose in a pot, Young Lycidas fits the bill. I grow it in a pot and the heavy 4-inch blooms cascade around the pot creating a very nice romantic look. The flower lasts very well in a vase compared with other DA roses. It's healthy in my garden and blooms all the time. Helen...See MoreSpirit of Freedom....
Comments (10)I have 3 SOF own root plants: it does great here. I got a 1 gallon pot from Chamblees for around $12 plus shipping around 9 years ago that had 3 plants in it. The DAR website says that it grows up to 8 feet tall, but some of the canes on our plants are over 15 feet long. I would not really want to grow it on a rootstock here, as it might get even taller. I live in central CA in USDA 9/Sunset zone 14. Our growing season is ridiculously long here, (roses bloom here from mid March until December) which is why most roses and other plants, grow larger here than most other places. I don't know how it would when grown own root in your area, but I expect that it would be smaller. Perhaps you could contact your local rose society and see if any of its members is growing this variety....See MoreSpirit of Freedom own root available at HeirloomRoses
Comments (50)Yes Sarena, Amara is a snuggler, but she kicks like a mule when she's having a good dream. I wish Amara was a talker , she is strangely silent most of the time. We have only heard a few deep barks , but she screams bloody murder when she sees neighbor dogs on their walk and can't join them to play. I think Amara would be great waving from a parade float. When she leaps at bugs or her toys, all you see is a streak of flying gloves , her dark coat makes the rest of her really well camouflaged. How did we get such perfect Puppers to love, and be loved by ! I think you are going to be captivated by your new Spirit of Freedom, such a poignant name for a time like this. I hope you get to see some blooms before winter. Maybe because mine was so expensive and took so long to obtain, I am fascinated by every little nuance - the color, fragrance , shape... I wish summer could last to observe the roses longer. There is one more little bud forming . ....See Morejacqueline9CA
