Nacitoches Noisette vs. Blush Noisette
Comments (5)I think you just answered my question - What may be BN has a bloom on it this morning....buds are pinkish but open white, has a nice scent. Its growing next to a pillar, is tall, almost wrapped around the pillar. What may be NN is growing in partial shade and is a shorter, broader bush. No blooms yet - but I recall it as being a pale pink. Both have the same kind of buds, in a cluster form. How are they to root? Easy? Hard? I would like to have more of these - they are easy care, bloom lots. Also, these are in partial shade - would they tolerate being in full sun in our blistering Texas sun or would they do better [IF I get any to root] in more shade? Thanks for the info!! Comments (13)Teas and Chinas are "made" for the south and have done exceptionally well here. They can be ignored, but some grooming and shaping result in some very pretty shrubs. Many make nice cut flowers. The noisettes that I have are Crepuscule and Nachitoches Noisette, and are doing beautifully. I want to try Lamarque this fall. I need to get a structure for him first. I am going to try a few hybrid musks. So far Prosperity is taking right off, as is Ballerina. I have Ballerina in a semi-shaded area (some full sun, mostly dappled) and she is very happy so far. I am going to try some others in areas that get a few hours direct sun, with the rest dappled and/or shaded a bit (NOT heavy shade). My gut says they will need some relief from the intense sunshine we have in Central Florida. That may not apply in the southern states more northerly than me. I'll let everyone know how they fare in a year or so. There are many "found" roses that do beautifully here also. Maggie is one of them, and Bermuda Mystery roses do well. Maggie has a few "crud" leaves right now. It may be some heat stress? I'm not going to spray her. I will pick off the leaves that are affected. Most of the foliage looks nice, and it is mostly older leaves that look yellowed and spotted. Her flowers are awesome! There are polyanthas that will do well. I am still determining who that is. If they stay decent in a clay pot through the heat, and will stay fairly healthy with crud leaves being picked off rather than sprayed, minimal crud leaves, then I will plant them. Clotide Soupert has stayed clkean for me, but I need to move him to where the lawn sprinklers don't hit him. Overhead watering can ruin the pretty flowers. Otherwise, I get more good than bad blooms. So far I have a few David Austins on fortuniana that seem to fine without spray. Time will tell. It may be the rootstock that is helping in that regard, or because we are not as rainy this year. The hybrid teas were fine for awhile, but most became disasters without spray. The few I kept I am going to try some of the more natural sprays on. If it works, great.... if not, then I have a shovel decision to make. I will only spray something that I do not need to suit up for in this heat. Sandy...See MoreDo you know 'Good Shepard Noisette'?
Comments (7)Learn something new every day. Kaye, are you saying one rose that is prone to BS can be an instigator to where the other roses get it? If so then I've got some that I need to go ahead and take out. I've been keeping them around, thinking that it was OK, I didn't mind leaflessness as long as they bloomed. I planted that monster Good Shepard Noisette that Kaye gave me and it's grown some, but not bloomed yet, and it does have BS and pretty severe defoliation when none of the other roses in the "new" rose garden have shown much BS. To be fair, though, this rose was so mature when I got it from Kaye that I planted it in a crowded spot without much air circulation, thinking that it would shoot straight up from that spot and up onto the arbor which would be more air circulation....See MoreYellow noisette or tea noisette recommendations please
Comments (24)'Marachal Niel' is my favorite yellow rose of any class. I had an own root plant that did not grow a good root system (after 3 years it died and I dug it up and the root ball could have filled 1 and 1/2 bread boxes, and so I am learning to graft roses just to own a vigorous M.N. . If I had a second choice I would choose 'Duchess d' Auerstadt' for its' rich fruity fragrance. My Celine Forestier' blooms heavily in the spring, not at all in summer and lightly in the autumn and it's five years old. Nearly everyone who sees 'Reve d'Or' asks "What is that rose?" It grows amongst 180 other rose cultivars. so I love the fact that it stands out among more vividly colored roses. I also like the fact it can be grown as a self supporting "tree rose" shaped own-root plant of c. 5 and 1/2 feet tall, or grown as a climber. I'm planning to propagate 2 for the end of my sidewalk in front of my porch. I also have Lady Hillingdon (which took me awhile to take too as the color kept reminding me of Josephs aspirins for some reason.. and 'Le Pactole' (The Goldmine) which was, I'm told originally sold as a Noisette. It has very dainty and lovely dark green small leaflets that show off the cream blooms with lemony yellow centers, very well. Its a beauty but a slowwwww grower. 'Alister Stella Gray' is a wonderful rose and I wish I had another one instead of choosing Malvern Hills' because of an unrealistic photo of it showing large blooms. I love all the Tea and Tea-Noisettes. Lux....See Moresultry_jasmine_nights (Florida-9a-ish)
