PLC on my Spice-Zee NectaPlum & Powdery Mildew on my Anna Apple
Comments (7)I know, Applenut :-( When we purchased this home, and the previous owners showed me where they espaliered this lovely little Anna (they wire used to pull the branches down were embedded into the branches, I cringed), it was up against the house on the north side! I didn't have time to dig it up in January, and find a new home, because where it needs to go isn't ready, yet, to take the tree. So, it has to stay there until I get the lower part of my yard landscaped. It's starting tomorrow, in fact!! I've got a nice spot on the east fence that should get some great sunshine all day long until the very late afternoon. It will be MUCH happier and healthier over there, along with the other Anna and the Dorsett Golden. Now to get the Dorsett Golden and the Annas to bloom at the same time. My Dorsett still hasn't bloomed. the one Anna I have (which is ridiculously precocious) has a TON of lovely little skinny, non-cross pollinated apples on it! My other espaliered Anna looks like it will also have quite a few apples. Now - to keep the #@$%* rats out of my trees. I've armed myself with several bait stations. I am declaring war on the Root Rats. Last year, they ate every single one of my 20 apples off my little espaliered Anna. That I babied and tried to protect. I'm done being a nice guy. I'm poisoning the little bast##ds. Patty S....See MoreUpdate on Anna
Comments (15)Good morning. i just spoke with Anna and she said the Pet scan showed a "spot" on her spine that could possibly be from trauma to her spine in the past, which she can't recall having. She has an appointment for an MRI and a bone density test on April 2nd. She will see the oncologist again on April 17th but will start the pill form of chemo now. The way I see it is that she's not quite out of the woods....yet. I so appreciate the care, prayers and support of my "friends on the forum". Thank you so very much. jude...See MoreAnna Olivier and Lady Roberts
Comments (4)Congratulations Jackie! Your Lady Roberts bloom is lovely - on my monitor it closely resembles the colour of my Safrano blooms at the moment. My Lady Roberts (purchased in May 2014) was extremely variable in colour last year - everything from verging on white to deepest pink! Rather a shock, however, here's the colour that it produced at the beginning of May 2015 - My Anna Olivier hasn't flowered yet this spring but she does have lots of buds - if she is half as beautiful as your AO bloom above, I'll be very happy. Comments (17)rosecanadian - it was built in 1904, as what we would call a spec house. Cost $5,000 when purchased new by my DH's great grandfather. The interior is full of built-ins (except none, of course in the kitchen - those were built later by my DH's grandfather) The living room and dining room have wood panelling up to a plate rail - from looking at houses in Old House Journal, I get a feeling of a transition to Craftsman going on. 10 ft ceilings on the first floor and 9 ft on the second. Two huge fireplaces (one in the dining room) built with large pieces of what the locals around here call "blue rock", which is of course grey. We are lucky, and my DH is the fourth generation of his family to own it and live in it, and it has been well maintained, but not ruined by any "updating", except of course the bathrooms and kitchens (it is now a duplex).
