$1000.00 for PROM!
Comments (28)I'm going through the same thing here, myself! DD is a high school senior and we were out shopping for her prom dress a couple of weeks ago. Not only was I floored by the prices of many of the dresses but by the styles of many as well. Skintight (and I mean very, very form fitting), and many strapless or with very lowcut bodices and/or backs! Thankfully DD wasn't looking for one like that but she did comment many times during our shopping that I was acting like a prude (LOL)! With her being a 5'7" size 3, we had a really hard time finding a decent dress at a decent price. But we finally, thankfully, found her "dream dress" at Dillards. Like many of you have already mentioned, the thought of spending close to $1000 on a prom sounds like an awful lot to me, but perhaps we just live in a part of the country where folks don't spend that much. I know that DD and her close friends won't be spending even half that. I did hear that both Albuuquerque and Santa Fe were having free prom dress events last month, which I thought was such a great and thoughtful idea. I'm wondering if any of the restaurants around here will be having specially priced, budget-friendly prom night dinners. That would be much appreciated by both kids and parents. Comments (13)My daughter found a beautiful royal blue floor length dress at a used dress sale held every year at her all-girls high school. We also found a cute light blue short dress at the sale the year before, which she wore to the Sadie Hawkins dance. This past homecoming, her dress from Foleys was worn by another girl as well. Yikes. The funny thing about the used dress sale was that the moms running it could tell you who wore the dress and to what dance. Mari, there's also a shop at Valley View Mall called Angel Wear, and I've bought beautiful Confirmation/First Communion dresses there. The shop specializes in Quincienera (sp) apparel, so the selection is varied and the dresses are usually on the modest side. Plus, they can order a dress in the size you want....See MoreWhat do you remember from your high school prom?
Comments (43)Our school had a junior-senior prom. It was a small school so I guess they needed two classes to fill the Elks Club ballroom. Don't remember my gown or date my junior year. I'd have to get out the yearbook--wherever it is. :0 My senior year I was dating a guy from the next town. I was very small and we had a terrible time finding a gown to fit. I don't know why my mother didn't make it. She always made our clothes. About a month before prom, mother and daddy went to Columbus, Ohio to visit my aunt and uncle and mother found the prettiest dress. It was a size 3 and she had to alter it. It was short, dusty rose organdy with spaghetti straps (nothing to hold up a topless gown). Across the bodice was a row if deep rose and dusty rose organdy flowers that could be removed (I kept them). I loved that dress! My date brought me a corsage of pink baby roses with babies breath that I pressed and kept for years. After the prom ended at midnight (a treat for all of us to be up that late back then), the Seniors had an all-night party. It was also at the Elks Club. We all changed into bermuda shorts, which were the new hot thing, and danced, played games and ate until about 5 when they served us breakfast. It was a lot of fun and emotional because we were graduating and sure we'd never see each other again. You know how emotional HS girls can be. A lot of kids in my class ended up back in R-ville. Nice little town to raise a family. It'll be 50 years next month since that prom night. Sure wish I was going to the reunion in June!...See MoreProm 2008~~pic heavy
Comments (21)Great pics! Kevin does look like both his Mom and Dad! The girls look great too. Love the dresses. Everyone looks like they're planning a great night. Your Post Prom sounds like our Project Graduation. Here for Prom night most kids rent a limo together (8 or 10 kids) and go out to a nice restaurant for dinner, then go to the Prom and then on to breakfasts at different houses. I had a group here on Prom night this year even though my youngest is 21. It was mostly kids his age who are out of school, but they had friends and family going to the prom so they were in a festive mood. They just hung outside, laughed and talked till 3am!!!...See Morearcy_gw
