If I saw that here I'd say it was Viola arvensis. Do you get that where you are?

Or a self sower from a winter viola planting. The colours vary.

Johnny-Jump_Up , or viola bicolor are European wildflowers, but have escaped cultivation here in the US and are often found in lawns and fields.

Arvensis flowers are very small. At least half the size of tricolor and always creamy white or pale yellow. Never 'tricolor'.

Yes, wild violas. I get some of the white ones and the blue/purple ones- they both have some yellow in them if I'm recalling right. I haven't seen them out back yet this year.

I notice the OP is saying violet. Those aren't violets, that's a different thing than violas. I got violets blooming riot in the yard right now :)

Strictly speaking violets are Violas. Viola is the overarching species name as well as, confusingly, the common name for a subset of the species.

davidrt28 (zone 7) Johnny-Jump-Ups have tiny blooms, less than 1/2-inch. I've seen them in fields and lawns here in central Kentucky. You never did say where you're located, which may help.
