Comments (5)The blueberry will be happiest if it goes into the ground sooner, rather than later. Is it still dormant, or has it sprouted green leaves and started to flower? It's best if the blueberry shrub is dormant when planted. Blueberry shrubs are native plants, and they have natural resistance to frost. Comments (3)I planted 3 blueberry plants (2 rabbiteye and 1 SHB) in January and the temperatures were in the 20s. They are growing fine now. With that said, they came in cold dirt and I planted them in cold dirt. You may want to acclimate them to the outdoors before planting them. When you do plant them, water them well. Comments (7)To grow blueberries, the soil should be high in decomposed organic matter, and it needs to be able to drain water. Blueberry roots need to be kept moist, but they do not do well in standing water. If you have rainwater ponding in your yard, you might have high clay soil, and in this case, you might have to build a raised bed for your blueberries. I used to use peat moss for amending our soil, but now I use compost that we make ourselves, from shredded leaves, raspberry canes, and garden refuse like tomato vines. Comments (1)Nice plants and fence! Unfortunately you planted your blueberry too close to the fence. You can leave your strawberry for now (blueberry is still small), it will spread and you can re-plant new plants after they root.
