Showing Off my Seedlings
Comments (25)I have been reading this post and other posts to understand how to handle seedlings and to get general instructions. While I was searching for Petunia I hit upon this post. After seeing the inspirational seedlings of Mandolls I sowed Petunia's for the first time ( ok it was my first seed sowing too :) ). All went well, seeds sowed on 24-Aug germinated - 27-Aug transplaned into cups - 06-Sep (immediately after the seedlings had true leaves) Today 18-Sep they are not big enough. They just have an extra set of leaves. The seeds were sowed in coco peat cups and in are open. Should I fertlize them. I have a water soluble fertilizer which says NPK- 18-18-18. The instruction I got was dissolve 5ml in 1ltr. Is this OK? The temperature in my city is :90ðF Precipitation: 70% Humidity: 65 % Need guidance on fertilizing. Comments (7)Up here in Vermont it doesn't really get warm until the end of May. The leaves come out the 2nd week of May, but the trees are not really growing until the end of May. But the buds start to swell during short warm periods in March and April, so if I want tight buds at grafting I have to pick them near the end of Feb, meaning I have to store them for 3 months. That's why I have a fungus issue. Eric...See Moreleafless canes on climbers before winter sets in
Comments (4)Thanks Jim and TJ!! They did have some blackspot this year and I try to spray with Bayer but I got REAL lazy and didn't spray like I know I should. I know they are getting alot less sun than they did in the summer and thought that might be why they defoliated too. They did lose some of their leaves because of blackspot but I think most just fell off green I guess because of the lack of sun. I had read not to cut back climbers so I have left them alone. Thanks again for your help, Judy...See MoreGetting my collection for the winter!
Comments (42)Lovely blooms, everyone! Thank you so much for sharing! I'm still getting over the NBF episode, but was very lucky to be recently gifted with a Minerva to replace the special one I lost... It's only just beginning to show a scape and a couple of leaf tips, so it'll be a while before actual blooms appear. I'm just so thrilled to have this bulb! It's a dream come true for me, after losing my oldest and dearest bulb, plus so many others, and not having the funds to replace them. I admit, though, it's all my fault... I became too quickly enamored, then addicted to Amaryllids, and I think I might have expanded my collection way too large, and way too fast! It's only been through the help and generosity of a few very dear friends that I've been able to enjoy such a wonderful hobby! And I want to make sure to thank those of you that have helped me one more time... though I can never really thank everyone enough! It's a great hobby, really... and once you find the methodology that works for your own set of conditions, you're in business! I've learned so much... not only from sharing here with everyone, but also from others on various forums. I think maintaining a smaller collection is in the cards for me... as long as it contains at least one Minerva, my very favorite, no matter how common! Keep the photos coming... they're all just so pretty! Even when we get a mislabel, it's still a chance to enjoy those glorious blooms!...See MoreStush2049 Pitts. PA, zone 6
