New phal leaf looks 2 dimensional

One of my Phalaenopsis orchids has produced a new crown leaf that is growing at a good rate but hasn’t opened out like a normal leaf, making it look 2 dimensional. I’m attaching a photo of it, beside a photo of a normal new leaf on another phal. Is there something wrong with it? Do I need to do something?

One of my phal that suffered cold damage grew a 2nd leave when the first one was barely 1 inch long, but both of them continued to grow till about 3 inch long each, and its basal keiki in the same pot did exactly the same (2 leaves together). Now I don't know it's growing 2 leaves simultaneously is because at that time it only had 1 leaf left so instinctively it wants to grow as many and as fast as possible? Your phal seems a lot healthier than mine so I assume your old 'new' leave will continue to grow :)

It's 6-7 inches from 2 T5 fluorescent bulbs. My uncalibrated cell phone light meter app shows 300-350 fc. An identical Phal that has smaller degree of discoloration like this is on another shelf 9-10 inches from 2 T5s, and the light intensity measures there at 800-850 fc (I guess that reflector is better and/or lamp position is more directly above). Does not look like the light is too strong from these numbers. I touched the leaves, and they do not feel warm, so it's not the lamps' heat either. What then?

Do business as usual. If the new leaf is dead the plant is history, nothing you can do. If it got warped from heat or whatever and another 'new leaf' follows it, then you'll be fine. Just keep it happy in the normal way and cross your fingers. Nick

It will be OK. There is a big difference between crown rot and a break. Just keep water out of the crown and it should grow a new leaf.

I'm no expert on orchid diseases or ailments, but I do have an observation and a question.

Observation--Your plant on the right, and the new leaf on the plant on the left both have a decided red color. The two old leaves on the plant on the left appear green, as a Phal. should. Question--Have you made any radical changes to the culture of these two plants lately?

These are rescues. they were half dead so they’ve had a massive change to their conditions. i got them from the same people on the same day.
