They definitely aren't red so if red is what you want shovel them out and maybe give them away. Mine does great in Colorado but it doesn't sound like it does great there. Definitely time to try something else.

They barely survive here in Calgary. Definity not thriving.

Sheila, thank you - I have not looked at AC Navy Lady before, so I should look into that! As for Cuthbert Grant, how does it do for disease resistance please? I have read somewhere that it may be prone to blackspot, is that true please?

Here, Cuthbert is healthy and was in Alaska too, Ostrich. My husband and I both love those dark reds.

AC Navy Lady is hardy to zone 5. Gorgeous deep red South slight rose fragrance depending on weather. Do you grow it, Sheila?

Yes Vapor, and it is a winner. Very dark red.

Somehow I admire it from the beginning but I have never bought it! Maybe I'll have to change that soon. I bought Bordeaux and really like it But I can't have too many reds either.

Just a thought for your next rose: don't over fertilize. Usually half strength is plenty.

Fertilizer does not necessarily make a plant 'healthier.' Overfertilizing can result in weak stems which break easily and are more susceptible to disease. Sorry if you already knew this' maybe it will help some newbie.

May I suggest you keep the most vigorous Winnipeg Park and experiment with other reds reported to be super hardy in the spots in which the less vigorous WPs grew. You know, it's a trial and error process in difficult locales like yours. They have to be in ground to see what they can do. The identical rose variety growing in your neighbor's garden may fail miserably while yours thrive.

Yes Winnipeg Parks is more hot pink instead of red, and prone to mildew and blackspot. I don’t know of any fragrant reds on the market. Canadian Shield is a true vibrant red and more floriferous than Emily Carr. Bush form for Canadian Shield is good but does tend to throw long canes sometimes. But is more resistant to mildew. I find Winnipeg Parks has slight fragrance. Cuthbert is a dark burgundy/purple red for me, again slight fragrance, flowers tend to nod downward.

Marie, you know what? I might just have committed this crime... overfertilizing my WP roses! Since they came back so late this year, and they died right back to the ground, I thought that I should give it a good "kick" and so I might have overfertilized! But I used the slow release granules so hopefully I didn't overdo it too much... good lesson for me. Thanks for this!

Yes its been hardy to zone 3 for me, however this spot gets reliable snow cover, as its where the snow gets piled from the driveway. The flowers are more red in person.
