Suggestion for plant LIKE a Japanese painted fern, but for part sun

I'm working underneath a tulip magnolia. This pic is from February, I think:

I've added a birdbath planter on the Southeastern perimeter, and around the base I've added a few sun-friendly green hostas that look a LOT like the Royal Standard*, a sedum, and on the Northwestern side a coral bell.

I have a space left between two hostas on the Northern side of the birdbath. I WANTED to put a Japanese painted fern (which I love as a companion to hostas), but I'm concerned that it might get too much sun; especially direct morning sun. I've found that they tend to fry pretty easily, and I don't really want to kill it.

Any suggestions for something similar in look and size to a Japanese painted fern that will act as a companion to hostas, but that can handle a bit more sun?
