Wood-look porcelain tile or Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring?
Comments (53)I vote for floating, click, wood look, luxury vinyl plank. I especially like the style with knots and chatter marks. Lay it throughout the whole house, on the diagonal, with no thresh holds. That's what I did. I can clean the entire house in approximately five minutes with an electric leaf blower. Porcelain tile is more durable however it is more expensive to buy, more expensive to install, and more expensive to uninstall. Also, some tile is extremely slippery when wet whereas wood grain LVP is not slippery at all. Five years later I am happier than ever I chose grey driftwood luxury vinyl plank for a house with dogs, kids, beach sand, and lots of wet feet. If the house gets inundated from storm surge and ocean water gets inside, I can unclick the LVP, clean and dry the subfloor, and then reinstall the same LVP and it will look as good as new....See Morerug pad on luxury vinyl planks

Comments (9)YES. One big FYI. The middle of the planks is a form of stone or cement. We do have some unevenness in our floor (two different pours in the family room created a 1/2 inch drop. One of the planks started to come up. The store sent down a highly experienced person to repair it. He used a circular power saw to cut in the middle of the plank, the entire length of the plank. Then a second cut about an inch wide to allow space to remove the plank without damaging the locking ends of the adjoining planks. He then removed the plank, and using a special tool, inserted it without any damage. He put a length of rug padding, under the plank, to prevent another bend. He could have used floor level material, but it would have very inconvenient for us, given drying time and the location. The process took 4 hours for one plank. No charge as the store offers a lifetime satisfaction warranty and they live up to that. We are glad we got it. Make absolutely certain that if you have any uneven areas, including loose gravel near the patio door, that the floor liquid leveling be perfect. The less expensive planks are more flexible, and tolerate floor discrepancies better....See MoreEngineered hardwood vs Luxury Vinyl Plank
Comments (8)I don’t agree that LVP is not a good choice for basements. We used it because we have a walk out that goes to a free access dog run with 3 big dogs and the other entry is to the pool so lots of traffic with wet feet, muddy feet and at the end of the day a quick mop and it looks like new 12 yrs later . Hardwood would have by now looked like garbage from dog nails and water left sitting. IMO you choose flooring to stand up to your lifestyle not because some imaginary buyer will like it better. We have always had floors that are not real wood because we will always have big dogs and no matter how careful you are they can do some real damage to wood floors....See MoreMichelle Linden
