WANTED: Pierce County trade Sunday, June 5
Comments (18)I was earlier thinking of outdoor plants for trade, but does anyone need any house plants? Granted my house plants are fairly common too, but they grow like crazy and I can't keep them contained except for the cacti and african violets. I have solid green spider plants (haven't seen real spiders for quite a while inside, coincidence?). Also have purple velvet plant, red veined fittonia, grape ivy (cissus), asparagus fern (plumosus). I threw about a dozen spider plant babies outside last week just for fun to use as ground cover annuals, contemplanting planting my big spider outside as it is taking over my bathroom and a real trick to keep watered. Comments (16)I am currently building a house in fort pierce in meadowood golf and tennis club. We absolutely love it there. I am a retired elementary teacher from nj. I researched the area for 4 years. Here's what I know. Fort pierce is not a concrete jungle like all the towns to the south. The beaches are beautiful, especially inlet state park. There is great shopping and wonderful doctors in Vero, which is about 15 minutes north. The same for port st lucie 15 minutes to the south. There are lots of wild animals in the area because the place is old florida with lots of undeveloped land, especially where I live on Johnston rd. The people are very nice. If you want an active night life, you won't find it here. The downtown area is awesome. They have a farmers market every Saturday and great performances at the theater in town. Great restaurants are in that area and vero and port st lucie, just a short drive away. There are so many more good things to say, but you need to look in the area and see what you enjoy doing. Now for the bad part. There is a small area that's down right bad. You'll know it as soon as you see it. Here's the deal, just don't go there. Drive around that area. I literally just stay away. Every town has a bad neighborhood, and this is a bad one. Why they don't as a town get rid of that eye sore, I'll never know. Other than that area, it's a great place to live, retire, and simply relax in a slow paced quiet life style. If you want to step up the pace, get in your car and drive 15 minutes in either direction. Then come home to old florida to live. It's the best of both worlds. That's why we moved here....See MorePierce County Plant Exchange Treasures!
Comments (3)It's hard to tell but behind the flower box is actually a small lilac and behind that are sweet peas that I hope will climb up the little tepee and cover it. But you are right, I have plenty of empty fence that needs covering. Andi, who hosted the Pierce County exchange has some fabulous clematis that gave me inspiration. I have one just to the right in the top pic, but it will take a couple more years before they even come close to rivaling hers!...See MorePierce County Conservation Native Plant Sale
Comments (4)Dawiff, I'm a fan of these county conservation district plant sales. I'm affiliated with a non-profit camp/conference center and they donate leftovers from the sale free to such organizations. I always attend and often volunteer at the Snohomish County Conservation Disctric plant sale. The plants are sold bareroot in excellent condition. There often are oversized plants available too, not listed in the catalog. Sometimes a batch of trees goes 2 years before they are dug, and they offer them at ridiculous prices. Once they had 8-foot tall paper birches for $3! Best to you, Jim Eichner Here is a link that might be useful: You are invited to the Green Elephant Plant Swap...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
