unexpected winter deaths PNW

julieotoole
last month

These last two winters have killed several established plants in various locations ordinarily completely hardy for us (zone 8; 1600 ft above Portland) such as: Ceanothus (probably Victoria, thriving and of various ages); sarcococcus (sweet box) probably ruscifolia with the lower growing variety coming through fine, golden varietaged euonymous and Osmanthus Delavay. My native, established Garryia elliptica also looks bad. Has anyone else experienced this?
