Another of my old gates
Comments (15)Gorgeous garden! I remember we had a gate just like that at my mother's old house. Although hers probably wasn't as wide as yours. It's amazing that something so utilitarian could look so pretty back then. I was just discussing that with an antique dealer the other day when I was looking at a gorgeous antique sewing machine cabinet. When they made something like that years ago, they made it pretty as well. The gates look great in your lovely garden!...See MorePVC gate installation questions
Comments (0)Would anyone have any tips for installing a PVC gate to our porch. There is existing fence, and we bought a do it yourself gate at Lowes. It will have to be cut down to size and attach the hardware . We have never done anything like this before. Any tips??? TIA, Micah...See MoreGate stop placement on double gate
Comments (6)We aren't in an exceptionally windy place, just ordinary winds. We did use really large, strong hinges, but I know over time even those will start to give. A drop bar at the top could work with a shorter gate, but ours is pretty tall - hard for us short people to reach - and also, the top is rounded. But it sounds like having some kind of stop both at the top and bottom is a good idea. Having one go the whole length would kind of spoil the beautiful design of the gate, though. We need to be able to open (and close) it from both the inside and the outside at different times. I'm mainly wondering if people tend to bump into the protruding piece, since it's not really in the center of the visual field....See MoreLaminated wood gate post questions
Comments (3)Assuming the manufacturer used a waterproof glue and that's a pretty reasonable assumption for pressure treated wood, it should be more than adequate for the application. I built a planter with laminated posts using Titebond II (which is only rated as "weather resistant") and despite constant exposure to the elements and contact with damp soil the posts were fine for over a decade....See MoreJuliane Hundt
