Night blooming Jasmine doesn't like sun
Comments (24)Night blooming jasmine loves the sun. If you bought the plant from a store that kept it indoors, that means after a certain time the plant grew soft leaves according to the indoor climate. Now that you have it and you want to have in your garden, just put it there. It's going to loose all those soft leaves and grow new ones according to outdoor climate. Don't be scared, all the leaves are going to dry up and die, but it's going to grow new ones according to the "too much sun, wind, rain", stronger and shorter in size. The only thing that the night blooming jasmine doesn't take is too much cold or snow. Eventually it's going to die. If you live somewhere where it never snows or if the temperature never goes bellow 40 degrees F, you're OK. Otherwise you have to take it indoors winter time. Good luck...See Moretuberoses
Comments (4)I planted a few tuberoses 5 years ago. I planted them in pots. They grew fat clumps of grass-like leaves and bloomed the first year. After that, I planted them in a sheltered flower bed. The plants survived two more years, but did not bloom again. After that, I took them out. I live near Beaufort SC. Have you posted your question on the bulb forum?...See Morehas anyone grown hardy gardenia or jasmine in zone 6 ct?
Comments (9)I have gardenia 'Frostproof' that was planted in 2008 and moved in 2011. It has never been protected. Last summer it produced about a dozen fragrant blooms, and so far it looks OK this year. I have several Gelsemium spemperivrens 'Margarita' and the oldest is about 8 years old. It's really nice in that it's one of the very few evergreen flowering vines for zone 6. Masses of yellow trumpet flowers in spring. I also have a winter jasmine, J. nudiflorum, which is definitely hardy in zone 6. The stems are evergreen, and blooms often appear during any brief warm spells from as early as December all through winter and a final big flush of blooms around April. During the summer and fall it leafs out with tiny green leaves. When they fall, they just sort of disappear so not messy, and as I said the stems are green all year. I also have a J. officinale, which has proven hardy for at least 10 years, but seldom blooms. It survives, but doesn't really thrive. Maybe in a very protected spot it would do better....See MoreWhat Do Lemon Blossoms Smell Like?
Comments (38)Essential oils of blossoms are not always going to smell like the real fresh flower, and sometimes it can be better and more practical to get artificial blossom fragrance, although that of course depends on what the flower is, and the quality of the artificial fragrance. Citral, a tiny hint of some type of ionone, and neryl acetate, would be used to simulate the smell of lemon blossom. Maybe with a little calendula added (which naturally contains germacrene). There's also a product called rhodinol, which is isolated from natural pelargonium, which is a specific form (stereoisomer) of citronellol, which is lemony and reminiscent of wildflowers, sharp and astringent, probably would also be good added in there for realism....See MoreStephanie, 9b inland SoCal
