Does anyone know what pest does this?
Comments (9)Thanks for your replies, wirosarian, Jackie, Patty, and SoFL rose. I'm surprised to hear that our temps could be cold enough to cause this. We have days in the 60's and nights in the 40's lately. But, I guess it does make sense, because if it was much colder, it wouldn't bloom at all. I never would have considered cold temperatures causing it. Some sort of bug was consistently ruining the buds on Irish Creme during the summer. I just assumed it was the same thing. I think you guys maybe correct. I'm looking more closely now, and I don't really see chewing from a pest. I'm glad I asked, because I never once thought it could be anything but pest damage. Thank you all so much! Lisa...See MoreDoes anyone know what’s happening to my plumeria?
Comments (4)I’m starting to think there might be an insect issue however. One of my other cuttings has an inflo on it and has begun dropping buds like crazy all of a sudden :( They go from healthy looking to turning black and falling off within what seems like hours. I’ve lost 3 already this morning....See MoreDoes anyone know what’s going on with my rose?
Comments (17)Jena, my Perle d’Or did the bud drop thing it’s first year, the whole year. A lot of my roses also had chlorosis, including Perle d’Or, even though they were getting regular Magnesium-sulfate and I was alternating between Miracle Grown and a seaweed fertilizer, all in the hopes of curing them of chlorosis. Mostly it was the Polyanthas and Multifloras that had this problem. Finally I sent in a sample for a soil test. I had plenty of all the minerals and nutrients except for Nitrogen (which I already knew since its obviously devoid of any organics and so I was fertilizing) and absolutely zero Manganese (Mn) detected. Once I put a teaspoon of Manganese Sulfate dissolved in a gallon of water on each rose last fall the chlorosis completely disappeared and Perle d’Or stopped dropping buds. I will now do this once or twice a year; not too often since Mn is a minor nutrient and too much can be toxic. The Miracle grow I was using did have trace Mn, but somehow it wasn’t enough. I wonder if my soil was just binding it up? This just demonstrates that bud drop could be due to lack of an essential nutrient. It might not necessarily be Manganese for you. But since you mention the Kellogg soil might not be that great, I would give it a nice dilute liquid fertilizer once a week and see if it cures it....See MoreDoes anyone know what type of wood these cabinets are made of?
Comments (21)Yes, the neighbor’s wood cabinets look much better. At least to me, they do. And wood is back. It looks like they painted the cabinets in a pale mint green color, and did the walls the same. Someone might like it - you never know. But to me, I agree, it looks ghastly. The most economical ”fix”, imo, would be to paint the walls in a light taupe type of color - picking up on what looks like the current countertop color, somewhat. NOT GREY. A very light taupe. And i would change out the hardware to black. If you are replacing any appliances, go black - or white - but not stainless. Black light fxtures. If you change the countertop - consider wood/butcher block. Tenants might beat it up - but it is easy and inexpensive to replace - and imo would give you the best look with the existing cabinets that you have. Would bring some warmth and life to the place, and would be current - because wood is back. ETA: I now notice that your existing hardware is black - so that is good! A few pics, to show some of ideas i mentioned; similar colored cabinets, with wood/butcher block countertops, etc....See MorePaddy
