I wonder if an herbicide like Quincept would kill it. It's a broadleaf killer while preserving the grass (make sure it preserves your kind of grass). Not cheap, but it works. Maybe it would work on BSC. The manufacturer could probably advise.

Thank you for the suggestion of Quincept! I may try this. Right now I am using Spectracide, I believe it kills around 400 broadleaf plants. It takes a while about 2 weeks, but I am strarting the notice the BSC is dying.

If Spectracide doesn't control it (it is now in small patches), maybe Quincept would do a better job.

Do you happen to know why Quincept it is expensive?......Maybe it is more powerful than the others?

There are several SiteOne stores in my area. I will try them out. I would happily pay more for a product that works better than standard grade.

I will check into Snapshot to see if I can use it on a lawn.

Did you get rid of your BSC? I've use round up and I thought that would do the trick. I'm not sure if I need to use full strength concentrate? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

That Blue Star Creeper would look great blooming in my lawn. I know where to get some divisions to sprig into the lawn. What a great idea. Thanks.

Hello, Deb, I wouldn't say it is gone, but it seems to be under control. I have been using a product called Spectracide, which is a broad herbicide. You can find it pretty much anywhere. I sprayed the lawn with it (using the bottle which hooks to the hose) then i have been "spot spraying" as needed. For more stubborn areas, the local garden center recommended Weed Beater Ultra. This definitely kills it, but you don't want it to get much of it on the grass itself. Please.let us know how your progress goes. I am surprised there isn't more information about there about how to control BSC.

Never heard of blue star creeper but the pic's look awfully like my creeping charlie. Christopher, be careful! creeping charlie loves getting out of the lawn into and over every other thing in my garden. It hasn't conquered tall trees yet but not for lack of trying! If BSC is similar ....

BSC, Lobelia pedunculata, and Creeping Charlie, Glechoma hederacea, are two different species.

What I know as blue star creeper is an entirely different plant, Isotoma fluviatilis. It is an extremely popular groundcover here, as it is easy to grow, holds up well to foot traffic and has long bloom season. It is an excellent lawn substitute.

I've not known it to get out of hand and invade lawns but I suppose it is possible. It also doesn't look much like what it is in the photos, as it is very mat-like and flat. I am also not the slightest bit obsessive about a lawn being 100% turf grass. Monocultures are never ideal and I much prefer a mix of various creepers, wildflowers and yes, even weeds in my lawn areas than doing battle with chemical warfare to get rid of what wants to grow there naturally. Turf grass lawns already suck up vast amounts of natural resources and chemical products as it is.

Before you opt for whatever herbicide is your choice, confirm the ID first.

Common names strike again. But whatever it is it isn’t the same thing as Glechoma hederacea.

Glechoma hederacea is just one of many small flowering creeping groundcovers in my lawn and flower beds such as they are. I have very healthy coverage in places with wild strawberry, Fragaria virginiana and dwarf cinquefoil, Potentilla canadensis. They both have excellent bloom periods. There are a lot of tiny unknown late winter blue flowering things already. The BSC as in Isotoma fluviatilis would be fun it it likes it here.

Maybe it isn't worth trying to get the BSC out of a lawn. I do think that it adds a certain whimsical beauty to grass (if it isn't taking over). From what I hear it is pretty hearty and not easy to get rid of. Next spring I may just let it go and see if it stays relatively in bounds.
