Interesting video. I've made Compost Tea in the past but not biochar. Not sure I would do that especially because our yard in Florida is so small.

Thanks, biochar and compost tea has been great for my gardens. I have the room to make it. By adding biochar I do very little watering. I also get the added bonus of sitting around a fire with the family

Saw that video, amazing however its not just compost tea he is using. When you watch the video he adds a special blend of "herbs and spices" to be nice. I bet he has some of those trace elements and micro biotics type stuff like in the tone products.

There is a 'soil, compost and mulch' forum that would be more specific to your query. Having said that (and I encourage you to go there for additional responses), I don't think it makes that much difference what you use in teas nor do I think it makes any difference whether the tea is aerated or not. Many, many will disagree and I wholeheartedly respect their disagreement. My advice to you is do things different ways as you feel so inclined and to the extent you find it fun and then form your own conclusions. When it comes to teas there simply is no one size fits all recipe. Teas are one of those areas where there are ardent, passionate supporters of various methods, but once you look at the science underlying the claim you will find all of them wanting. The result is you have to rely upon empirical (do it yourself) evidence. Sorry, I wish there was a shortcut, but at this time there simply isn't. Pick a method and try it and then pick another and try it as long as you are having fun. Go with whatever works best for you.

Hi Denise! I've made compost tea a bunch in the past, but it's been two years since the last time. I had gotten a 'soil soup' for Christmas a few years ago and used it a bunch for a couple of years. Then the aerator broke and I got a couple of aquarium aerators and it did pretty well. My container is way big, so it really needs a lot of air movement. My compost bins are presently full of cow manure and it is going nowhere fast, so it may be a while before I can make it again. I think it really greened things up, but the main purpose is to innoculate the soil with good microbes. I need to start going on it again. Anna

Thank you, Jasmine, for that video-link. Compost tea would be less stinky than alfalfa-tea. Menards here sell a 18 lb. bag of compost granules (dry small black pellets) ... only $2 per bag. I'll going to soak that in a bucket under hot sun to see if that works. Sharon (Enchantedrose) mentioned about Alaska Pennington pellets not available locally. I think soaking Tomato Tone, NPK 3-4-6 with gypsum works better than soaking RoseTone, NPK 4-3-2 without gypsum. Why? gypsum has been documented to increase utilization of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus & trace elements. Both TomatoTone and RoseTone have Feather meal, chicken manure, bone meal, alfalfa meal, green sand, humates, and sulfate of potash. The chicken-manure in there might make the tea stinky. I made tea from Pennington pellets, NPK 4-6-6, but that doesn't have chicken-manure, so very low odor. Thanks for the video. I just recently started using biochar. There are a bunch of old oaks here so always more than enough material. Trying to replicate terra preta

Merry Christmas Jay. I have been using it for twenty years now and it has aloud me to grow in places that I just couldn't before. Now I just start with it. Saves time. If you want to replicate terra preta you also need shells, wood, fish and bones.also something to wick water up they used unglazed stonewear but any natural fiber will work.

Merry Christmas Glen. I don't really have a spot where I can pitch fish and bones lol, but I'm always making more compost to incorporate with the biochar. I'm already noticing an improvement in plant growth.
