Any planned purchases for 2024?
Comments (12)If I can find it, I plan to add H. 'Magical Revolution' under my Rhododendron 'Sir Charles Lemon'. It is supposed to be a dwarf re-bloomer, and I'm thinking its flowers would make a nice vignette with the amber and orange stem and leaf colors of SCL. Also have H. quercifolia 'Gatsby Moon' coming this spring. I would like to try H. integrifolia too. I have a new 3" caliper, 20' tall Quercus phellos (Willow Oak) that will some day be its host...at least that's the plan. Since this species of Hydrangea initially grows so slowly, I think I'll get it started a soon as I can find one. The Oak should be sufficiently large by the time the vine really starts to grow....See MoreShow Us Your Landscape and Gardens - A Photo Thread March 2024
Comments (13)Thyme, I would love a division of that yellow Hellebore! I'll have to find something to trade you for it. Actually I have two new Hellebores, that last year were new and looked new, so I'm waiting to see what they look like this year. One of them has variegated foliage which I hope will work out well in that bed. And I've found small Hellebore plants take forever to get any size in my garden, so I've started buying them in gallon pots now. So this variegated one should be big this year, I hope. The 'Fire Island' Hosta....has it done well for you? It really didn't do that well here. And actually the rabbits are eating my Hostas if I don't cover them as soon as the leaves start unfolding. I don't know how it will go this year, now that we had the section of fence replaced that needed it. I would like to think they will stay out but I know that is wishful thinking. Comments (29)I want to finally use the BBQ I had put together last year and invite some friends to a BBQ on the patio I haven't used yet. I want to move 2 overly aggressive columbines to their own containers so they don't overshade the hostas in the same container they're in. I want to plant a new Royal Tiara hosta, as mine didn't make it through the move to my house from my apartment balcony. I have already applied weed killer to many of the weeds invading the lawn and rose garden, and the kids next door promised to pull out weeds for me, as one of my prescriptions makes me dizzy to bend over and then straighten up. And, with any luck, the new front door and side door, which I had ordered almost 2 years ago, will finally be installed by a 4th contractor. The first guy hasn't returned calls for 3 weeks, supposedly waiting for his star carpenter to get back to him. The second guy now has 3 hernias and is supposedly retiring, The third guy is not qualified to do advanced framing carpentry. But this 4th guy looks very promising. Wish me luck getting the beautiful new door and storm door installed, after almost 2 years. It's currently leaning against the dining room wall, where it does me a whole lotta good....See MoreRose Garden Tour - Spring 2024
Comments (15)Thank you, Hoang Ton, for the quite fabulous spring rose tour of your beautiful garden. I surprised myself by being most impressed by the stunning Lady in Red climber, which I know nothing about. What a gorgeous way to welcome visitors to your house. Also impressive were the Iceberg hedge, Raold Dahl, Jubilee Celebration, the great color of Lady of Shalott, and the many rose companions you grow so well. I loved the vignettes you captured in your video. You've got a lot of lovely views to just stare at. Thanks. Diane...See Moresultry_jasmine_nights (Florida-9a-ish)
