I don't think many young women would like it. honestly. It is not at all form fitting and has not even a hint of cleavage. Prom dresses today are very ... Lauren Sanchez, alas. Glad my girls' (private) schools would brook none of that!

Recently at King of Prussia mall I noticed a few stores featuring prom dresses in the window. All I could think was wow, that is a lot happening on one dress. I was a little tempted to go look at the prices, but did not.

Cleaning out my parents' house years ago, I found a couple of my old mini skirts from the late 60s/early 70s. I wondered how in the world I ever sat down in them without flashing someone.

Oh, and I think this dress exemplifies the error in the differing views between generations of what is a great dress for this or that occasion or what would look good on us when we see the dress or whatever on someone more than half our age.

I'm surprisingly in touch with current prom fashion trends. There's a store a few blocks from me that specializes in formalwear and catalogues buyers so that no 2 young women wear the same dress to the same prom, etc. They have creative window displays that change every week, so that when I walk by, I can view what's the latest. I love that dress, Kswl--the color is on point, but the style is not. At least not now!

I took a long walk with friends this afternoon, and we crossed a bridge that served as a photo op for local prom couples. I wanted to say something, but couldn't decide between, "You are beautiful!" and "Use a c-------!"

After watching Grand March yesterday I am going to say NO. No high schooler would find that dress close to 'prom acceptable'. This year tight/slinky/ deep cut bodice and back .with a leg slit up to your panty line is all the rage for the most fashionable girls. And shoes well these highly coiffed slinky sexy prom goers were mostly wearing tennis shoes. MCM is not alive and well at Prom. Yes they are still all wearing basically the same 'it' design no matter how it looks--but gotta say that pink dress would look good on no one I can think of. DH thought it was a pants suit the way it hangs when the model walks.

I have always thought the phrase, when people are heading out "I'm off like a prom dress" hysterically funny.

I stayed home and watched The Love Boat/Fantasy Island combo on my prom night😏

I love the color and fringe fabric! To me, the style needs a tall person, so wouldn’t work for me, lol.

Dd in college seems to go to several fraternity formals every semester. Freshman year, I was heavily involved/opinionated about what she should wear, and actually went to Atlanta with her to shop. Um, not anymore. I found out quickly that these formals were not worth the time , $$, and effort I was spending! 🤣

Now she picks out things from these weird fast fashion websites that make me go, ”uh, really?” 🙄 But, they all wear this stuff and she’s tiny so there’s not a lot of flesh hanging out. 🤣 What can you do? I keep telling her to swap dresses with friends to be more environmentally friendly and she’s done that a few times. But I can’t imagine any of them wearing the pink fringe one to a formal…a bit too shapeless, probably. 🤣

I had a relatively small class at a Catholic HS and my class reached graduation without a single pregnancy--there had be roughly one unwed mother or father in each class in the general era I was in school.

There were 5 or 6 women who had babies in February of the following year after I graduated.

I think it’s a cute dress for the right person, but I don’t know a single girl who would wear it to prom, and I’m pretty aware of what high schoolers are wearing. I have a freshman in college and a junior in high school.

Wow - that’s less skin than most girls were showing a few years ago! It’s also nice to see dresses that aren’t all form fitting.

I have never been called a prude - or referred to as ”conservative“ re: fashion - but I was a little shocked when I saw some of the dresses back when my daughters went to prom. I was even a bit surprised when taking photos at my oldest daughter’s freshman homecoming. She’s pretty modest when it comes to her large chest (both my girls have had breast reductions after graduating from high school) - I was surprised when she showed cleavage for her senior prom!

I made a prom dress for a co-worker's daughter back around 1995 (I think), and it was black because the mother wanted it to look more formal. It was tea length and had a V neck, but the girl had no cleavage, and so I sewed some padding into the bust to fill it out a bit more. I thought it looked good when it was finished, but unfortunately, I never photographed it. I should have documented my work much better.

As for the pink dress - it might be fun for dancing in, but I think it should be taken in at the waist - at least a bit. It looks too much like a sack. I used to make sack dresses for my mother to wear as house dresses, but she never wore them in public.

This type of fringe always reminds me of Candy Johnson in Beach Party (1963) and Muscle Beach Party (1964)

What's interesting is that she inspired the song "I Want Candy" by the Strangeloves, who were kind of proto hippies, and can be seen performing this live on Hullabaloo in 1965, with The Hullabaloo dancers, and Cher, with their hair long and loose and in their faces, and completely different scene than Candy herself who seems kind of a throwback in comparison with her stiff bouffant and everything, (although she was only 20)

That fringe dress worn by Candy Johnson reminds me of those big spinning brushes at a drive through carwash.

Pork and Ham what a great picture! And it does demonstrate very well why the dress I posted would not be chosen by any teenaged girl unless all teenaged girls were wearing it. The dresses in the photo are in many different colors but seem mostly to be iterations of the same style.

😂 Don't mention it, mtn. It's the photo I chose. Some were cropped in a much more flattering to her manner. (Tie-in to your gallery wall discussion. 😊). I was not particularly nice to Ms. 'bob' Barbie.

She's also about 50 years older than prom-goers in this photo.

I see that dress as good for a prom goer who is a chaperone...not so much for a young teen.

I am no expert on proms. I attended a few dances and proms back in the 90s early 2000s so my view is probably dated. It's a fun dress, but I have a hard time imagining teen me or my teen friends at the time wearing it to a formal dance. I remember wanting to feel pretty, and yes, sexy, and grown up. Not funky / retro. I'm sure the dress could be flattering on some but would have been horribly unflattering on me then and now. I remember wearing form-fitting styles with bare shoulders (usually spaghetti straps at that time) and I would never have worn something in a shift style without being fitted in the bodice at least. I remember being "daring" and wearing some styles with a bare back (which is probably quite tame now).
