What Color Siding Should I Put On My House If . . . .
Comments (13)just_me_6: Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread with my gardening project. As for your siding color for your garden with blues and purples, a soft yellow or creamy white would give you backlighting for those colors to be visible. Some pinks might not go well with a yellow (although I break that rule), and you can use greenery behind the pink if that's an issue. A yellow or white will draw more attention to your house, but those colors work well with country cottage gardens. As you can see from my photos, we built in the back of a 2 acre meadow that has mature woods on 2 sides. We chose the grey/sage/cream to let the lines of the house show up without distracting from the surrounding natural areas. I had considered using a deep brown on the siding, but with our southern exposure on the front, I was concerned about paint fading (we are passive solar). I mentioned having used these same colors twice, so here are the exact colors on my previous house, which was a craftsman-influenced design set in a wooded area with minimal lawn. The only color difference here is that we used a deep charcoal on the window sashes of the true divided lights....See MoreWhat type of brick/stone should we use for our retaining wall/bench?
Comments (3)I like a brick color with a grey stone. Around here that typically means granite for the stone since it is supplied locally, but a bluestone or a gray cement would work well. Just make sure that it works well color-wise with your red and gray pavers as well as with the house color. I would only use two masonry materials in such a small space, though if you want your fire pit to be a freestanding metal piece, I don’t think that will be a conflict....See Morewhat type of flooring should I use
Comments (8)Slightly rustic seems to call for hardwoods to me unless it's in the Southwest. I know some worry about hardwood in kitchens. It's never been a problem in the 25 plus years I've lived in a house with hardwood in the kitchen and it's "softer" on one's feet and legs as one ages....See MoreWhich types of window treatments should I use in our 1930's tudor?
Comments (8)If you look them up online, they are sometimes described as “oval” spring tension rods. But they look good with flat panels, if you want to show off a William Morris fabric design or something like that. But as has been suggested, above, your woodwork and windows are beautiful! Less is more. Simple, subtle, so the woodwork is the star!...See MoreCristina M.
