Help! I can't seem to make a decision.
Comments (5)How much do you cook? How much do you bake? How much do you use ovens in general? Have you ever used a "convection microwave?" Have you ever used a speed oven? The decision between the Advantium and MW seems like the biggest difference to me. I don't have a lot of experience with convection microwaves other than everyone I've ever known who thought one would be like a real oven was severely disappointed. That isn't recent experience though. The local gals are all set against them, but they might have improved hugely since. The Advantium does seem to oven like a real oven in oven mode, though I haven't used mine for a lot of different things yet. Mostly for heating. I don't know how it bakes--the Miele speed oven is supposed to do that better. For faster cooking than a microwave can do, but so that it still tastes cooked rather than zapped and browned, speed cooking in the Advantium should be superior to what the convection microwave can do, but, again, I haven't compared personally. The best way to choose the fridge you want is to look inside them and imagine your food and containers in it, and see which one fits your way of thinking best. Does it hold your tall bottles where you want them? Your big jugs? Your little jars? Your big trays? Are the drawers big enough? Are they easy to get into? Can you reach the top shelf easily? Is it easy to see to the back? Ovens are harder to get accurate info on. You can like the controls, features, racks, etc., but that doesn't tell you about performance. If you make a turkey once a year, and bake up the fundraiser cookie dough, it doesn't matter. If you're a serious baker it matters a lot and you need to do some more research. There are pluses and minuses to any dishwasher, but most of them work pretty well if you use the recommended detergents, et al....See MoreHelp!!! I can't make a decision
Comments (4)Yep, we had similar experience with some Marvin dealers. We went to three dealers, the first two were unresponsive & near insulting. The third one did the trick. I almost abandoned Marvin in favor of some other brands. Not sure why Marvin dealers like to act so. The first two had closed, the third has been in this business for eons, so it shows. I understand your window configuration now so it may be more expensive than our simple casement units. So that Marvin price range they quote you is quite similar to ours. Surprising that in four years, the price is nearly the same? Marvin must be facing stiff competition. Good luck with your work and enjoy your new Weathershield windows!...See Morekitchen design - can't make a decision for the life of me
Comments (23)Just for fun, and because you voiced concerns about traffic to the back door, I did a couple of quick and messy layouts, switching the eating and working areas. You've mentioned the question of moving plumbing--these might not even be a consideration, but maybe you can use something from one of them. 1.) Fridge convenient for everyone, but 5.5' to landing space above DW. Only one sink, but nice prep areas. Tight U-shaped working area could be opened up by extra window and window/pass-through to family room. 102" theoretically would accommodate 36" corner susans and a 30" range, but no wiggle room. You could have an undercounter oven (pros on the site don't usually recommend them), or a wall oven on the top wall. Or a small sink on the top wall if you choose a snack area. The fridge and wall oven could be switched, if that works better--but more steps to landing space. I like the u.c.oven, and all storage/pretty dish hutch on the top wall. In both plans that's a pony wall behind the open door to the backyard. 2.) Fridge is closer to cooking area, with wall ovens beside it. Nice prep area and baking area. Clean-up is near table and dining room. Pantries or snacks in the other corner. Aisle in the cooking area is ap. 50" in both plans, so kind of a 'cockpit' kitchen. Not many upper cabinets in either plan....See MoreHelp! I can’t make a decision- literally!
Comments (14)Ok, the one slab thing does look neat. But still, function. Do you need the additional few stools seating like that more, or would you benefit more from the storage of a buffet? If you don't need the seating so much, you could still do the one slab and put some custom cabinetry in on the dining room side. Make it more dining buffet looking rather than a kitchen cabinet. Maybe even something extra like glass doors like some old build ins have. The one slab would look like a stone top for the buffet then....See Morela_la Girl
