I actually did decorate for St. Pat's Day
Comments (6)Thank you all so much for the inspiring words. I am truly grateful for all my blessings and I include all my forum friends as part of those blessings! You are just the best! Punk, I will post pictures when we get the cabinets installed as they are just stacked in the garage right now and we aren't replacing the doors and drawers until we "put them in their place", LOL! Nana, fortunately, the leprechauns were well behaved this year, although now that I think about it....hmmmm Marlene, The leprechaun was given to us by some former neighbors who were moving and knew how much I liked to decorate for holidays. They thought he would be better off with me, LOL. I just started colleting a few Mark Roberts fairies, but the calendar pages are inexpensive substitutes for the real thing! Karen, probably part of the funk was due to being tired, and withdrawal from golf! We hadn't been able to play until recently as the course was closed because of snow and ice. We finally have had some good weather and were able to play, although we have had some horrific winds! I really dislike wind and that doesn't help my mood either! I'm sounding lilke Oscar the Grouch, but it does make me grouchy! Jeanne, you are so right, each day is a blessing. Sometimes I forget to count them as I should. I get caught up by the personal issues and don't see the big picture. Thanks again everybody. Happy Spring, Candy...See MoreAre you ready for St. Pat's day?
Comments (10)Hi Luvs, It sounds like you are going to have a nice time with your GD, I don't blame you a bit for sending her a card, she will love the stickers too I am sure. It is still exciting to me to get a real card in the mail its like receiving a "minigift". "Card emails" are just not quite the same. In fact a few days ago I went out and purchased a bunch of pretty and fun stationary to be able to write short letters every now and then, talking on the phone is great, but I think it will be fun for my family to receive a really pretty matching envelope and note paper in the mail with a short note from me. Sorry, I got off the subject a bit. (blush) Well, I'm not having company this weekend, in fact I have been invited to my neighbors house for her SO's birthday, so I shall definately eat and drink well tomorrow LOL. I'll be doing a table soon, I am finishing up with putting together my pink table from the new plates from Target, gosh I don't know what it is with me and pink lately.... If all goes well with the rest of my ideas I will try to have a couple of Easter table settings for April, there are just a few things I still need to pull together for that. (I have to hit a few stores in the "further" towns to finish off my looks, I've been to 3 Targets so far....) I also tried to talk my DD into taking me to Home Goods this weekend, but I did not have much luck there, she is not as nuts over Home Goods as I am-perhaps she was switched at birth??????...See MoreAnyone doing special food for St Pat's Day?
Comments (26)I'm corning our own flat cut brisket this year-- used a recipe from Bob Appetit-- the brine contains Lager-- it's brined for a total of eight days-- will be interesting to see if it's as good as Dad's old corning recipe. Also planning to do a Beer Cake-- it's originally a German recipe but hey if it's got beer it COULD be Irish. Home Cookin Chapter: Heirlooms , Traditional & Ethnic Gugelhupf Bierkuchen (German Beer Cake) ======================================= 1 cup molasses 1/2 cup butter at room temperature 1 (12 ounce) bottle beer 1 cup raisins, plumped and dried 2-2/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon baking powder (double action) 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon EACH, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger (I use 1 teaspoon cinnamon) 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans or filberts, toasted Glaze (see recipe below) . Instructions: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a 9 or 10-inch tube, bundt or gugelhupf (sometimes spelled Kugelhopf) pan. Combine the molasses, butter, and beer in a saucepan and heat only until the butter melts. Stir in the raisins or currants and let the mixture cool for 15 minutes. Sift together the dry ingredients. Stir in the nuts. Pour the cooled beer mixture over the dry ingredients and stir until smooth. Pour the batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated 350° F (180°C) oven for 45 60 minutes (I check at 45 minutes, mine took 50 minutes). Remove from oven and let stand for 15 minutes before turning out on a wire rack. Let cake cool a bit before drizzling glaze over it. GLAZE: Mix 1 cup icing sugar and enough maple syrup (or liquid honey) to moisten the icing sugar to the drizzling stage. Pour glaze over the top of the cake and let it run down the sides....See MoreWeek 44: Spring, spring, SPring, SPRING dreams!
Comments (23)Outdoor dreams??? Well, let's start with the 200,000 dollar + dream backyard/oasis. In ground pool, diving rock, grotto, lazy river, hot tub, etc with the beautifully landscaped yard surrounding it with raised gardens, accent lighting and the gardener/pool boy to maintain it all. More realistic (not NECESSARILY requiring a huge lottery win) would be replacing the chain link fence with a privacy fence for the backyard (8,000-10,0000) and finish having the driveway poured. Our current driveway is mostly gravel with only a small portion of it concrete. We sit on a corner lot and our property is higher than the roads. Our driveway curves from one road to the other, I.e. very long, and expensive to pour. Since our driveway is uphill from all directions, during the winter there are times we can't get up our driveway. Once we reach the concrete, we have the traction to reach the house. The issue is literally timing and gunning the engine at the entrance to the driveway at just the right moment in order to make it from the road to the concrete. I'm hoping that in the next year or two that we can at least finish the concrete to the road on the garage side entrance so we don't have to leave our vehicles in the snow drift on the road and hike to the house. Did I mention that my new stove and fridge are coming on Friday? I will post a picture when they arrive. I'm so excited to finally have new appliances (a first for me) AND they are what I wanted and picked out!!...See Morehazelinok
