Which BUCKS are most disease resistant?
Comments (17)Over the years I've seen Aunt Honey in bloom before at different places and I'd always ask what that beautiful rose was. Good to know about the disease resistance in addition to her other attributes. Just a reminder too that when Dr. Buck was breeding roses in the 80's, disease resistance wasn't his primary motivation (although of course it was nice to have), winter hardiness was. At one point they had numerous Buck roses growing in the Tulsa ARS Rose garden, and some were fairly disease resistant and some definitely weren't....See Moreyour favorite BS resistant yellow or apricot rose for cutting
Comments (19)Apricot is my favorite color of rose so I do grow quite a few and have found most to be healthy and hardy. I do spray, however, but most of these I think would be okay without it. Nancy Reagan--took 2 yrs to mature, but now--WATCH OUT! Mother of Pearl--Marvelous health, vigor, quantity of bloom Marilyn Monroe--All the goodness of her daddy St. Patrick in an apricot flower. European Touch-Monster bush with tons of flowers and no disease. Tahitian Sunset--Multi-color and fragrant--delicious. Welcome Home--Yellow HT-monster bush and tons of flowers. Southern Belle--Little known J&P yellow with old-fashioned blooms and wonderful fragrance. Gold Medal--The absolute grandiflora standard of perfection About Face--took 2 years to establish, now it is huge and throws scads of beautiful blooms. Hollywood Star--Probably the oveall best John Sheldon hybridyzed rose. Beautiful apricot blooms healthy/hardy Day Breaker--My favorite of ALL roses. Great bush without flowers, breathtaking when loaded with dozens of multi-colored apricot/pink/yellow/cream blooms. John...See MoreMost Fragrant.....with disease resistance
Comments (7)In my no-spray garden (where blackspot is the main problem) Belinda's Dream does well. It has a nice bush form, big flowers, and a lot of fragrance. Big pink flowers that you can smell just as you walk by. It gets a little bit of blackspot here but not enough to stop it from pumping out the roses. Mine's own-root and bulked up fast. Elle is beautiful, too. Big pink blooms blended with yellow. It is only in it's 2nd year for me and gets a bit of blackspot, but blooms a lot, has a nice bushy shape and great fragrance. Mine is grafted but had no trouble over-wintering without protection here, didn't lose any canes and is filling out really nicely. Heritage stays healthy for me and blooms in big fragrant clusters, nice BIG bush form, though your sister might not think the individual flowers are big enough. I don't think it's easy to find shrubs that have big fragrant flowers, and thrive in a no spray garden. I'll be interested to see what other people recommend. Jean's no-spray list has always seemed like a great starting point, if you can pull it up with a search....See MoreMost Disease Resistant Mini???
Comments (8)I have a Hilde... It sat near black spot infested roses without contracting the disease [not sprayed]. Beautiful rose, too -- light red with hints of white near the center, dark foliage. It can also be dark pink in color. Has a nice scent. Tough little rose, though. Grows and blooms like crazy. Will bloom within 3wks of sprouting spring growth and continue to bloom until frost. The heat doesn't effect it much either [been topping 100 here] though it sits in full sun from sunrise to about 4PM. Here's mine: Here is a link that might be useful: Hilde...See MoreSCMG
