Extrrior Colors That Compliment Orange Brick
Comments (4)When combining colors there are several SCHEMES. The opposite (complementary) color is one of them. There is also the analogous color scheme where 3 colors next to each other are used together. When one of your colors is orange the other two could be red and yellow, or the combination could be orange with yellow and green. We are, however, not limited to basic colors. Paints are most often grayed tones of color. Even whites and grays have color that make them warm or cool. The link to schemes above has a list at the bottom that recommends cyan (turquoise), lilac/violet, olive, pale yellow, and brown combined with orange. Remember that these colors also come in bright, dark, or subdued shades. I recommend you visit the various paint manufacturer sites and look at their colors using their virtual paint programs. Paint the siding a color closest to your brick. Then choose trim colors that you like. This is the quickest way to find out if you like a particular color. When you find colors you like, jot down their names and numbers for future reference. Below is one I did using Benjamin Moore's site....See MoreCan you paint exterior brick wall? or How to "renew" the bricks?
Comments (43)Here's the link: https://www.progressive.com/lifelanes/household/painting-brick/ To be clear and so we're all speaking in proper context, the 3 to 5 year recommendation is about REGULAR HOUSE PAINT. Which I have repeatedly stated that regular house paint is not the best product to use to change the color of brick. 30 years ago there wasn't the range of product to choose from like we have in 2019. Also, from the same article. And, again, to ensure everyone has proper context... "The Brick Industry Association also advises using a porous paint for exterior brick walls, so the brick can breathe." " Zumeta recommends looking into having your brick professionally stained, rather than painted. Although it can be more expensive, a brick stain penetrates the pores of the brick, unlike paint, which simply sits on the surface. It creates new color without some of the long-term risks that come with paint." In addition, the article speaks to the substrate. Which I also mentioned earlier in the thread because it matters. Bottom line is it's not okay to make sweeping, generalizing, fear-mongering comments about the pitfalls of painting brick without specifying product and substrate. The details matter. Lastly, from the article, this is bad advice. Which makes me question the article overall. I wouldn't use Super Paint exterior on normal substrates let alone brick unless the budget was Super tight for painting normal exterior substrates. JMHO: “Choosing a high-quality paint is vital for painting brick successfully,” says Watson. Both Watson and Crocker recommend using specific masonry paint products for painting brick, starting out with a conditioner and a primer, and then using a breathable latex exterior or interior paint, like Sherwin-Williams’ SuperPaint Acrylic Latex."...See MoreHow to make exterior compliment better
Comments (7)I would paint the brick a light color that blends with the stone. Is the roof the gray-ish color it appears on my screen? If so, I would pick a light gray from the stone that also works with the roof. Mixing brick with stone can be iffy. At this point I'd try to downplay the brick somewhat by making the color blend more with the stone. Agree some plantings on the right will help. Just wondering if the three columns could at least be shortened to the wall level...?...See MoreExterior roof and trim colors
Comments (2)Gorgeous brick. I would definitely remove the diamond grids and the shutters. Maybe change out the storm door. I would go with a creamy white. Test color on foam core boards that you can move around the property. The front is the most important side for the color to work....See Moresapna h
