Trellis, as in mostly 2 dimensional? Not an arbor? For espalier vs. having a roof of Lamarque overhead? Here's If I were doing it again, I'd leave out the top element as totally unnecessary and top-heavy. The supports are 4 x 4, the smallest trelliage is 1 x 1. One year soon I expect it to be toppled in a storm, but it's the largest that space accommodates. Here's a It is a combination affair, mostly trellis because the rose that grows there now is espaliered. You can't see that on the right, the whole thing is bolted to the house to provide lateral support. We have a very stout arbor with 8 x 8 posts as supports. The first horizontal elements bolted at the top are 10 x 2. The next element at right angles on top of the 10 x 2 is 4 x 4. It's like the link below but without the additional very top element of 2 x 4. We found the top set unnecessary on the freestanding arbor. If you use very stout 8 x 8 posts, then the upper elements likewise have to be very stout themselves to look right. Here's The structure is not graceful. Definitely sketch out the whole thing on paper to see the relative proporations. The other thing is to consider how you will provide lateral support. An arbor has those 4 nice posts to keep things from tipping over. Of course grace matters almost not at all once it's covered with Lamarque. The structure pictured in the concept is atop concrete block posts, with 4 x 4's bolted into the posts on each side. That thing isn't going anywhere. You can cut the ends of the rafters to match the architecture of your house.

Anyway to get any hardwood cuttings off this tree? You can wait until it goes dormant. Cut some whips. This years growth. cut the top on a slant an the bottom next to the bottom of a bud and square. Put a five gallon bucket in the ground cut bottom out. Put sand in the bucket. Place the whips consisting of three buds in the ground upside down. cover with more sand or wet peat moss. Then wait until next May around the 15th take out should have some roots formed. Take and plant them out. Should have some cherry trees then. Sounds like a good tree to get some cuttings from.

Can only tell you what I've read online about it AFTER I bought it....There's a nursery near me and the man that owns it suggested two roses that he said were both beautiful and would perform fine without spraying and without too much pruning. He's a big believer in old fashioned roses or antiques....Anyways I knew nothing about them but that I wanted two white climbers that would be good for a beginner like myself andso I ended up with 'Lamarque' (Noisette) and 'Sombreuil' (Tea Rose) and I'm glad I did as I really like them both. I'm pretty familiar with 'perennials' that attract birds either with their seeds or for nector, read about them, lurked and scoured around nurseries within a 100 radius for them, looked through the catalogs for them till my fingers cramped, bought every book I could find with the words 'perennial' or 'attracts birds' in it....but I gotta tell you the truth I'm starting to get into this rose thing.....:) Paul Here is a link that might be useful: Guide To Antique Roses

Redbird, it's my understanding that the Atmore Lamarque is a very old clone, an "original" plant dating back to the 1860's, found in Ventura County, CA. As such, it had never been grafted to a rootstock and was suspected to be free of all the viruses that most mass-propagated roses have suffered from (although many new modern introductions are now grown only own-root, and don't become infected by association with infected rootstock). It was ELISA tested, and was indeed found to be virus free. As such, it *should* be even more vigorous than the standard clone that has been in circulation for years (egad! More vigorous??? lol). Other than being virus free, it's identical to any other Lamarque. Edit: I forgot to mention that if you want DETAILS, Jerijen can help. She's the one who ID'd the clone known as Atmore Lamarque.
