Comments (23)Hi Debra: just wanted to add my two bits regarding Anatomy of Change. I got that one a while ago and as I recall it looked pretty much like your picture the first year--some of the pinchy ones have done that for me. But once it had been in a while the blooms started doing the pinching. I think the most radical evolution was with Curt's "Unpredictable you" which, I swear, looked a bit like a narrow petaled version of Wonders never Cease its first year--I honestly thought it was a mislabel. Surprise surprise in the second year--the flowers were all sorts of pinched and twisted. Also, some of his varieties seem to pinch more as the heat rises--Rainbow Mesa comes to mind and Sacco & Vanzetti. This year's addition included State of Urgency which put up a completely flat bloom--lovely color but not a hint of a pinch, but I know that next year it'll be different. I guess, I'm really saying: "Just wait, the show ain't begun yet". And also: "I love my Hansons!"...See MoreA few seedling pics to share
Comments (9)Thanks for your comments. I will have to spray more often for thrips and hope for improvement on that first one. It had a nice form and edge, good branching and bud count and the scapes were tall enough. I mislabeled the lavender seedling-it is Nature's Magic Mirror X seedling NOT Nature's Edge Magic Mirror X seedling. I wish all of you could have seen the orange one. I am not a big fan of orange daylilies, but that one was so gorgeous with good substance and a gold edge. I also have a lot of ugly seedlings that I am hiding. Julia, I am fairly new to daylilies. I love all the new expensive ones, but my thing in gardening is propagation, so I combined the two. I was able to trade cottage garden seeds from my garden for daylily seeds from several people. That is why I have 135 seedlings that I hope will bloom this year. I went nuts on the LA this past winter buying seeds of these new fancy daylilies so I will have a lot more new seedlings to bloom new year, but I don't have any more room and I am NOT making any new beds. Comments (9)All beautiful, Marg! I'm partial to red daylilies this year for some reason so Dominic would be my favorite today. I also love hollyhocks. I have a volunteer growing in with my irises this year. It just started opening and is a very deep burgundy single. It looks like the Watchman. Is that fluffy hollyhock Fiesta Time? Or Queeny Purple? The other one looks like Indian Summer. Humour me here. I'm working on my observation skills. ;) Angel's Choir poppies look like gossamer! I started some from seed a few years back with some white peony popppies. They self seeded the next year with delicate pink lacy trim on white and darker pink on pink! Very nice pics!
