Juniper Problems
Comments (1)Unless its just natural shedding from new foliage shading out older growth, my best guesses on where to look for the solution: Spidermites, overwatering/poor soil aeration, or repotting time (root-bound), or a combination of one or more of the preceeding. Over-fertilizing usually showes up as burn on new growth rather than interior growth. Al...See Moreblue juniper problem
Comments (2)I don't know the exact reason for this (other than it's probably normal for some species/cultivars), but many junipers seem to lose their blue bloom as they mature. Chemical use, excess fertilization, and other things that WE do might cause this, too. Does your neighbor know what kind of junipers they are? We could do a bit of looking around at natural habits if we knew that....See MorePlease help with problem junipers
Comments (4)Juniperus virginiana .. google it for culture info ... size.. shade.. etc ... intensely over planted .. due to bigboxstore ... subject to tip blights.. and rusts ... and an invasive in many parts of the country .. check with your county extension office ... link to some info most likely.. they were sheared for sale.. probably for the bigboxstore ... and they are simply getting 'established' and spreading out into their more normal form ... they are growing faster .. from parts that were not sheared by the mass producer ... if it were me.. i would get rid of them.. because they are going to be way to big for that area ... or!! ... just go at them and shear them back into a pleasing shape ... and in 5 years.. write me back and agree they are to vigorous for the space.. and they had to be removed anyway ... my guess ... he went for a bargain.. paying cheap to fill a need.. with no real knowledge as to ultimate size.. and was limited to bigboxstore selection ... and realize.. size estimates are usually.. with conifers.. at 10 years .. at 20 years.. they will be twice as big.. and keep multiplying in size every 10 years.. until death do you part.. yours or its ... the conifer peeps could recommend a couple hundred better things for the allotted space ... like Thuja de groots spire ... ken ken...See MoreProblems with Weak Juniper Groundcover
Comments (0)I'm planning to list my house for sale in 1 or 2 months and I'd like to see if I can do anything with this Juniper groundcover that will make it look nice by then. It has been planted for more than a year and it just will not fill in. Lots of gaps between each plant and they look unhealthy. I would buy more to fill it in quicker, but I heard they cant be planted any closer together and I don't want to waste the money if they are going to die. I'm wondering if they don't get enough sunlight because of the shadow of the house? They face north and get full sunlight only for a few hours when the sun is straight overhead or in a position where the shadow doesn't hit that area. Is there anything that can be done to stimulate growth or something I can do to will in the gaps while we wait for it to slowly grow in? Fertilizer, plant food or different watering schedule? Otherwise, I want to just rip them all out and put in bark to clean up the area and give it more curb appeal. Here are pics....See Morekitasei2
