Patio Railing Ideas- Wood vs Metal, how to attach

Hi,

We have a 'platform' off the back of our ranch, with a really sloped yard. The previous owners had a wooden railing that was untreated, ands so wobbly that we have to take it down and currently have snow fencing up. We're planning to do something like the platform/step design long-term to connect the upper balcony with lower patio, but we may just seal off the top balcony and then make a closed off railing on the lower level until we can build the additional platform.

We are trying to figure out if it makes more sense to drill into the concrete and put metal railings into the top of the surface, or proceed with a more stable/treated version of the previous design at least temporarily. If anyone has dealt with a similar situation and has advice, please share! The platform is too high (about 5 ft) to not have a railing.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

These are pictures of our current situation- we plan to fix the grading situation with a retaining wall.

This is a potential temporary/permanent solution if we decide not to build the platform connection (or just need a wooden temporary railing to hold us over until we get to that point...)

This design is more what we are hoping to do long-term, but requires us to build a platform between the two.
