A few comments. First, if you have really deep shade you won't get many flowers regardless of color. So plan(t) accordingly. Second, I would suggest using pine bark fines (AKA 'soil conditioner') instead of peat moss, which has a tendency to either repel or hold water (I've seen it blamed for both) in ways that are bad for azaleas. Peat moss is OK for potting mixes but not as the primary component of azalea beds. Try adding compost too. Remember to plant'em high. Now about your original question ;^>... I agree that white or mostly white flowers and foliage can brighten up a dark corner. A good small white-flowered cv is 'Hardy Gardenia', which stays compact with great foliage throughout the year. Flowers just starting for me in MD. There's a Kurume I just saw called 'Mizo No Yamabuki' that has starry yellowish flowers that would complement your color scheme (don't know how big it gets). Check into Rhododendron keiskei (sp?) selections and cvs; the species has nice small yellow flowers, but probably earlier than 'My Mary'. Could also add some of the variegated-flower types that are white with stripes, flecks, etc. of purple or red (I think pink and yellow together are obnoxious but that's just my opinion; if you like that combo there are many more variegated azalea cvs to chose from). If you want nice low growers that can function as ground covers try the North Tisbury hybrids -- some have light enough flowers to work in your conditions. If you live in Erzurum or Ankara, placing them in that open but protected area would be fine. If that doorway also faces south, you might want to cover them with a light colored box to keep the pots from getting to warm from the winter sun. In areas of Istanbul, Ismir, Antalya, Sanliurfa, and Zongiuldak, no winter protection would be needed at all except in areas of heavy winter rain (Anatalya, etc). There, pots should be tipped on their side to prevent waterlogging the bulb and placed along a north facing wall or coolest spot available. Keep in mind that liliums like orientals need a cold resting period to produce an abundance of flowers the next season and even allowing the the pots to freeze almost solid won't hurt them. Orientals like sun and a little dappled afternoon shade, although not necessary in the more moderate climates like Istanbul. On the other hand, full sun on a south facing bacony in places like Antalya and Sanliurfa would be too hot and flowers would fade quickly, Always use pots with lots of drain holes and a soil that drains well like sandy loam. Mulch the top of the pots to keep the bulb and roots cool. There are dwarf Orientals about 5 to 7 cm tall on the market now that work well for patios.

Yes, thats typically the perfect place to overwinter a potted fig. Fig trees do not need any light during their dormancy period. Just check the soil occasionally and make sure it doesn't completely dry out. You don't want to keep it heavily watered but at the same time you don't want the roots to dry out completely.

Sorry, I don't check this forum often. Are you looking for a brand recommendation or just info in general? I don't have one but my neighbor (also trying dwarf trees) & a good friend both do. I can ask around for you. What size are you looking for? I will mention that I had one in a previous home and battled aphids. Not sure if it was from the previous owner who had quite a bit in the greenhouse or something I brought home from the nursery. Just be vigilant. We also look after our neighbor's greenhouse when they are out of town. I do know they keep a small heater in case the weather gets really cold/freezing. We're just outside Huntsville if that helps.
