Comments (36)HI Laurie, I would consider the Rose stain a light-medium stain. (as opposed to a true medium or dark-medium) It's not as dark as the oak stain that was so common back in the 80's or that you see in oak kitchen cabinets. Our hallway is quite dark (no windows) so those pictures were with the hall light on. (Sorry I had to take those pictures down.) It's definitely not as light as say natural maple or a vanilla stain. We like it because our darker wood furniture pieces look good with it and yet it doesn't make the house feel dark. If you are unsure, order a box of it an lay it out. I did that when I was first looking with several brands/styles of wood flooring and it really helped me decide which way to go color wise. It's hard to envision a whole room of one color with one little stick or two. Take the Rose sample into a big box store and see if they have a box of wood or laminate in a color close to it...take it home and lay out the whole box! They will let you return it if you have receipt. It sure helps! Hope that helps! :)...See MoreCOREtec Calypso Oak, Noble Oak or Pembroke Pine photos?
Comments (454)We installed Cyril Oak through out our house a little over a year ago. Im having a terrible time keeping it clean. Dirt gets in the grain pattern which makes it look way darker than when it was new. The only way I’ve have found to clean it is scrubbing with a bleach product. I ordered some of the floor cleaner that Cortec recommended and that cleaned the floor but not the grain pattern. I’ve talked to my housekeeper about changing her pads more oven. I think they were just pushing around dirt. Im so frustrated and disappointed in these floors. They looked beautiful while they were new and after spending 4 hours on my hands and knees scrubbing them. Has anyone else had this issue? And if so what solution have you come up with? I called the Flooring retailer who also did the installation and they recommended trying the diluted bleach cleaner. UGH!...See MorePlease help me decide - natural red oak vs. natural white oak.
Comments (27)mark_rachel, that is what I told my husband! And, Oak & Board, I've been studying this off and on for at least a year. You are one of my favorite commentors. I have learned a lot from you. Both of the samples are solid hardwood not engineered. KD is pleased with the quality of the floor and barely there bevel. Haven't seen a white oak floor yet in Michigan. Well aware of matching existing flooring of which we have none. Need a little more visual interest than the white oak. Considered natural hickory and I think it is too much for me. In my area, everyone is used to red oak. Boring Detroit area suburbs. Not a high end home....See MoreURGENT HELP re: Oak Floor Refinishing
Comments (5)If, you have white oak , you will want to use the sealer to prevent tannin pull. Side bonding occurs when the joints are glued together by a "water base" finish. Which leads to panelization, where you end up with a 1/2" gap in one or more areas of the floor. For residential, 1 coat of sealer and 2 coats of Traffic HD is recommended. I would be concerned with applying 4 coats. Which can be too much film build and can lead to white lines in the joints. If, the installer is following Bona's instruction of making the final sanding pass at 150 grit. 1 coat of sealer and 2 coats of HD is all you need for residential. Their 4 coat system maybe to build up with cheap poly and finalizing with 1 coat of HD. Which is not comparable to what Bona recommends. You will need to sample the finish for the look you want. Everyone will have a different perspective of how their floors should look. Natural seal and Nordic seal is a good starting point for the look you want. HD is more durable than Naturale....See Moremillworkman
