Help with master bath finishes
Comments (17)Yes, they're an ORB. And yes, I was planning on tiling up the wall partway, about a foot but can do wood instead. Since it would be different than the pine window trim, I'd keep the wood lower, maybe more than 3" but we'll see what they have - could rip a board down, then 1 8 ft board would do all around, it would be 5-8". I was hoping to make the bead end up at the tile surface, but can always route a simple ogee or something on the top edge. Tile would have to be installed first so we know how high to make the apron. And if I use the same boards for the table top, I could do a low backsplash on that too, I have an old table I'm using as a TV stand now that has a removable backsplash and sidesplashes, use that as a model (it's just too small to use for 2 sinks). Maybe I can even sneak a drawer in there between the sinks too. You've almost got me convinced, now I have to convince DH. A project like this is going to take me a little longer than just ordering a countertop for the builder vanity, and I've got lots of unfinished projects around (like putting together an unfinished TV stand and finishing it so it coordinates with the dark wood end tables!). If I can find a cheap cultured marble countertop with sinks to fit the old/new vanity, then all I really have to do right away is install the radiant heat and tile the floor so we can set the toilet, tile the tub deck and install the faucet. The apron and the table can wait. DH just wants the master bath functional (it *will* be 5 yrs Labor Day since we moved in!)....See MoreMaster Bath Finished
Comments (12)Thank you all! The shower wall and floor tiles are porcelain, Fioranese Laguna Seca tile. The more decorative tile, Anatolia Sierra Ledger is stone (I think?). I'm pretty sure she got both at Best Tile. The counters and tub surround are Caesarstone. The color is Mink I think, 4350H. I LOVE it. More calm than a granite would have been, but still has some interest, even a little sparkle in the right light. We didn't know to slope into the shower, so that is a concern. The good news is after a quick wipe (top and bottom), it dries really fast. The Tub and sinks are Kohler Archer, and the Tub filler is Kohler Bancroft. We used the Bancroft for the sinks and I think one of the shower heads. We ended up mixing and matching a little with those. The towel warmer is a Runtal. We installed it because we already had a heating line going in there. It looks great, except for the two valves that go into the wall, they're kind of industrial and ugly. I guess most of the radiators that they sell (and all that they show in their literature) are electric. I'm sure I won't care at all next Winter in New England. Olychick, thank you for your nice comments. Seeing photos of your bathroom kept me hopeful that we could do it! Beth P....See Moredebrak's finished master bath
Comments (13)"It's been suggested by folks on the Smaller Homes forum that I cushion it with pillows and use it for reading and lounging." moccasinlanding I had to laugh at that. My teenage daughter takes a pillow and a book and sits in the tub. The tub is a Kohler devonshire. We had to get the tub early to make it easier to get it into the space before finshed walls. I was in a plumbing store and looked at jetted tubs. I was told that the devonshire was the most popular because it fits in a standard sized space and works very well. The price was $1000. I went home and in my mail was an ad from HD. It had the devonshire on sale for like $599. Then if you bought another bathroom fixture you got a $100 gift card. So we bought the tub and the toliet. The only concern was, what if they don't work when we are ready to install. They both work fine. firsthouse, I have to tell you the real story behind the blue tile below the tub. This bathroom is 2nd floor new construction over an existing 1st floor bathroom. When new meets old it doesn't match well. DH had trouble with the tub plumbing and had to raised the tub up 1 inch. The blue tile fit perfectly. Yes monicakm the floor is heated! We are very excited about that. One reason to look forward to winter....See MoreFinished Master Bath
Comments (23)The glass shower is super solid, but honestly...it's so heavy I do wonder a bit. But they're so prevalent, I have to imagine that they're stable. My contractor, who had never heard of starfire, definitely said he noticed a difference in the color of the glass. (But he raised his eyebrows of the cost, which was significantly more. Unfortunately, I saw that look from him a lot.) As for color - I couldn't even get DH to agree to colored towels - I thought I was bad! No way are we going to add color to the walls, but we'll be adding plants, art, and other things to add color. I kind of disagree that the color of the cabinets would be brought out by a darker wall, that seems counterintuitive to me. I love white walls with other things in the room providing the color. Like a giant wall of navy blue tile, perhaps? ;-) But I'm grateful for the comment that it's pretty even if it's not your style, I know this is very taste-specific. Not to mention ridiculously owner-specific, the higher sink is 40" high for my very tall DH. Thank you all for the lovely comments, makes me happy to hear that it's nice, especially from this crowd. I think the rooms I see on these boards are so much nicer and better designed than what I see in most shelter mags......See MoreSueb20
