Which hopelessly trendy kitchen chair?
Comments (80)Oh, mtn I agree completely--- that's almost exactly what I said to our ID when he sent me to the tk collections site for kitchen chairs. Luckily my mother came up with 4 French ladderbacks and I filled in with parsons chairs at the ends. But I spent a good deal of time playing with the weaves and colors--- this was about four or five years ago at the very beginning of the trend. We ended up putting four bistro type chairs on our screened porch that are all weather aluminum but look remarkably like rattan, which I got as a close out from a furniture supply company for practically the cost of the shipping! And the ability to take a hosing and not lose your stomach for continued renovation seems to be a required trait in a homeowner :-)...See MoreGray paint color for drab master BR with little light - help!
Comments (28)home-design.jpgAs we always say...............we can only ADVISE. ............ There are literally thousands of ways to love a space. Designers are not dictators, they just realize this fact,, and it is always about maximizing what one has, and minimizing that which one does not have. In this case, it is abundant natural light and a "coastal feel" . This is what Serena and Lily is known for. It appeals in their catalogue and on their site. When you look at both, note the natural LIGHT, and the obvious seaside feel. Just as we don't generally make locales such as that into dark and cozy, furry bowers, the reverse also holds true. I'll just say a prayer that the ivory ground print comforter set finds a home OTHER than this bedroom, or I missed something up here prior. It will appear a disjointed and disappointing complement to the paper you have to have. Sigh................deeply lol. Add tons of clean white...... WHAT MADE YOU LOVE THIS PAPER?? Answer: The Abundant, simple, WHITE. The bedding: ) A room only needs one show stopper. Don't dilute the effort. this below? Not so much..... apologies....See MoreDining room tweaks and a question
Comments (96)Yeah, i totally get that Kitch, no worries. That was why I didn't spend a lot. I do not love it in and of itself, but I think it might look good in that spot. I love the Leopards but the design on the doors would be visible behind them so I think it would ruin the look. In the pic, they are also flanked by brass andirons which also adds to the look. Plus of course they are $800 for a set of cardboard cutouts and I've no idea where to use them in the future. Not to mention, I can just imagine a stager/realtor walking in the room and saying "well, let's put away the goofy leopards first," can't you?...See MorePainting each bedroom a different color is "out"?
Comments (35)I have renovated numerous historic homes. I am never afraid of color. I was the queen of the red dining room. I have always been of the opinion that the house dictates the decision. My current home is traditional and no amount of grey will make it modern or farmhouse or any version thereof. It's currently SW Creamy except for the dining room which is SW Naval. But, my furnishings have a lot of color, red chippendale sofa and oriental rugs. Your relative/designer wasn't wrong offering her opinion. She isn't a weird hack or any of the other terms being used. Her view simply did not reflect your vision. She does have a point, which I will cover in a moment. Reading your posts, you have three issues. One, developing a color palette. Two, what to do with the amassed furniture of a lifetime. Three, putting all that together in a style that you like. The color palette is pretty easy. You found the colors in the wallpaper. You like them. Not all of us are that fortunate. Use those colors and their cousins as your jumping off point. Use BM white dove lavishly wherever you need light or in open spaces. Use the other colors in areas of better light. Always refer to them when needing to make decisions. The second issue is furniture usage and placement. You can do it yourself or hire a stager to do the basic placement using what you have. That's a designer's job by the hour. Don't worry if the pieces aren't the right color or the upholstery doesn't match. Place them based on usage and need. Do like Bunny Williams, make sure there are enough tables and lamps for drink placement and good light. Hospitality and ease drive the decisions. Everything else will fall into place. Third, I'd paint everything BM White Dove, move in, live with it, and add color as I worked on each room. At the very least, you will have a clean home with fresh paint. Decoration to be added at a later date and as time and budget allows. I'm a believer in living in a space first and staring at it in all times of day and not putting myself under pressure to make hasty decisions....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
