Looking for exterior house update ideas
Comments (19)Sidelights matching the door, functional shutters with shutter dogs, beefy posts (consider round columns to soften and repeat the curves on the window installations.) How about a new surface for the porch? It looks rather utilitarian and cold (like the builder ran out of steam) and you seem to have clearance at the door to add wood. Or you might professionally stain the concrete. The example below isn't the color I'd suggest, but you see what a difference it makes. Door, shutters, columns Stained concrete, beefier posts...See MoreExterior Home Update Ideas
Comments (0)Looking for ideas on how to update and modernize the exterior of our home. E.g. paint color, garage doors, lighting, finishings, etc. Also looking for ideas on what to do with the lean-to on the side of the house to make it look less like a horse stable! the home is located in Federal Way, Washington, USA....See More70's House exterior update ideas needed
Comments (5)If you don't want windows on the right side of the house, you can just plant taller shrubs in that space. I don't like the two different shaped windows on the left side of the house in your rendering. If you're adding those horizontal rectangular windows in the bump out, then use the same shaped windows below on the garage. You can place them higher on the wall so people can't look into the garage to see if you're home....See MoreIdeas to update exterior of 1980 home?
Comments (25)The OP mentioned that her dream house was Craftsman. Hate to break it to you but the only element of that house that could come close to Craftsman is the long overhanging roof, a signature element of Frank Lloyd Wright, considered by some to be the father of the Craftsman architecture movement. Paint the protrusion the same color as the body of the house and it won't be as noticeable. Landscaping can make this house completely different. I happen to love the house but I understand if it's not to your taste so direct the eye to a great yard. Layering the landscaping is key. I doubt it's wise to grow vines on stucco but check with local garden experts in your area for ideas. If changing out the garage doors is a budget concern, the other renovation ideas you've mentioned are far more expensive than that so work on the yard. Google craftsman landscaping. This is a good book that can be inspirational to you. https://www.amazon.com/Outside-Bungalow-Americas-Crafts-Garden/dp/0670883557/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1HM8VQYF1Z322&keywords=outside+the+bungalow+home&qid=1653389040&s=books&sprefix=outside+the+bungalow+home%2Cstripbooks%2C153&sr=1-3 The pic below says it's xeriscape so that might work in your area as you mentioned sun and heat. It uses a lot of native plants so find out what's native to your area and go with it....See MoreKW PNW Z8
