What shower walls go with Cambria Skara Brae counters in master bath?
Comments (21)Thanks for asking Kerrica. With the pandemic, we have been in limbo. Our bathroom is torn apart, prepped and ready to go as soon as things open up. We've decided to go with Taj Mahal quartzite for the counters and a "wood" porcelain tile for the floor. We want to extend the floor tile into the shower with a linear drain. I have to agree with others that, if we go with a natural stone for the counters we should go with a natural stone in the shower, However, I'm having a hard time finding something that goes well with the Taj. We're thinking of using large tiles to avoid too much grout. Slabs for the shower seem too expensive and have too many installation problems. Any suggestions on shower tile would be most appreciated! We are open to other flooring options if it would go better with the shower tile....See MoreReal flowers + faux shrub in same planter?
Comments (17)"Joseph, the majority of people put faux topiaries next to the front door." That's a pretty broad statement and one that I'd have to say has little to support it!! I don't know of anyone that puts faux topiaries by their front door! And if they did, there are natural, living ones that could work well, even in almost complete shade. It is going to come down to a personal choice.....you can either tolerate fake plants or you can't. If you care nothing about nature and gardening and do not want to be bothered tending to living plants and just want them to provide a decoration, go for it. But not my cup of tea and also not the cup of tea for many others. In all honesty, I'd have to say I don't care for topiaries even if alive. An unnatural and torturous way to treat plants....See Morefaux & real plant display
Comments (7)It looks good to me. Fake plants have gotten so realistic looking I often have to look twice to decide if they are living or not. It could be a thing, but the living plants and the indoor light conditions they get, as always, will be the determining factor in how long a mix like that will stay looking good....See MoreCan you do faux wood look flooring with real natural wood cabinets?
Comments (5)Go to a real flooring store (not a big box store like Floor & Decor) and take a look at high quality SPC (luxury vinyl plank with a stone core). Today's higher end SPC versions really do an excellent job of mimicking real wood, and in many cases it takes a very discerning eye to tell the difference. Despite knowing that for my scenario a SPC would be best, I temporarily listened to people here who kept insisting that engineered hardwood is much superior. I went to a flooring store to compare the SPC I was thinking about with engineered hardwood. Unless I was willing to spend at least double the cost of my higher end SPC, the engineered wood didn't have nearly as nice a look and it needs more care and babying. This comes from someone else in Florida. We aren't right on the water but pretty close to it, and we have a cement slab. I didn't want tile because it is so hard on your back. I am putting in natural maple cabinets with Karndean SPC flooring in a French oak. Also, our association has warned homeowners who are on the first floor with a cement slab (like we have) about problems other owners have had with engineered wood and moisture. The color I have chosen probably wouldn't work for you because it is too close to the color of your cabinet, but I thought I'd show you an example of their products. They have some truly lovely, very realistic products....See Moremojavemaria
