Exterior Paint Design Dilemma

This is our new window. Need ideas on how to update the look around it. We removed the 90s half circle window topper and it left a hole so what can I cover it with? Thinking about painting all trim black and changing color to off white? Suggestions greatly appreciated.

IMO unless you put vertical siding to match the rest it's always going to look like a replaced window . Trim the bushes and put better landscaping on that side.

I'd paint the siding SW Tricorn Black, trim and siding. replace/fill in missing siding with matching verticle.

Not black--that's too dark and too harsh. When I look at this house, the first thing I see is the garage doors and then the light colored siding between the windows. The front door is invisible. I would pick a medium dark color from the bricks (or possibly a warm charcoal gray if you want a more "modern" color), and paint the garage doors, siding, and trim with that. Then I would pick a light, bright color for the front door. Then I would invest in landscaping, which you desperately need.

First, pop those arch details out of the garage windows if they're removable. Then remove the shutters and the arched vent in the gable. If it is functional change to a rectangular one so you're repeating more of the modern elements on your home. Whatever you decide on the porch, the steps need to come out toward the street, and all your lanterns should be 1/3 of the front door's height. Upgrade the door from a builder's special to something with more glass and more of a modern vibe. Since the present gable on the left has such a low pitch and is so close to the front door, you may be better off to install a pergola rather than a gable over the new porch. It can extend all the way over the bay window and can be as deep as you want. Steps at the end of it by the garage will allow entry/exit from the drive when needed. The fence is a bit too colonial in style to me. Can you remove it? The landscaping seems a bit sparse; beef that up for a big impact on curb appeal. What color are you thinking for the siding? If replacing it, look into James Hardie pre-painted siding.

You have a wonderful modern prairie style house. Why don't you do a Google, Houzz, or Pinterest search on the style? Putting various add ons is going to result in what's called a remuddle. Get a new garage door along the lines of what's been suggested, a new front door, golden taupe trim, then hire a landscape designer to help you with a new walkway. Your house will look amazing and not a remuddle mish mash. Everybody's telling you the same thing--that your house is already modern looking and just needs tweaks, not a bunch of expensive add-ons. P.S. The curtains in the windows are bringing down the whole front of the house. Get golden bronze solar shades that you can put up or down. It's often suggested to have dramatic oversized houseplants in windows like yours, which link the outdoors to the indoors and add huge dramatic impact. Think about that instead of the droopy drapes.

If you're doing an addition you could maybe find a standard hardiplank color you like, but if your existing siding is in good condition, there is no need to replace it. You could have it painted to match whatever you put on the addition. Or you can get unpainted hardiboard and have the old and new painted so they are the same. That's what we did when we put an addition on our previous home. I don't think you need to extend the porch across the whole front of the house, but I don't know what your addition is going to look like. You should be engaging an architect for your addition. Pose this question to them. The decision on a porch can't be made without taking the addition into account.

Just fill in the top area above the window with matching siding.

I think the light gray roof will limit your stain choices for your home.

That evergreen has overstayed its welcome. It needs to come down.

Not blinding white because then it looks like you were trying for Modern Farmhouse and missed. A window like this wouldn't be found on a Modern Farmhouse home. I like the current color except it doesn't look like it goes with the brick on the chimney. Is there a color that would work with both the chimney and the roof? Since the picture doesn't show the chimney well, all I can tell is that is looks more beige than gray. Maybe one of SW's grays: Agreeable, Worldly, Modern, etc. would be a good compromise light to medium warm gray?

What about doing flagstone just around the window part that sticks out?

I like the mocck-up that BeverlyFLADeziner did with the dark color down the middle. I agree the siding in the arch should be changed to match.

Any warm white or light color would look good on the siding, even the current color is fine if you don't need to paint. Just paint the bump-out around the window.

Remove the overgrown shrub and update the landscaping.

If I added this wood siding to just the section that jets out around the window would it look bad because the rest of the siding is vertical??
