How to get cast iron tub into alcove?
Comments (14)Let me guess: no plumber, no engineer, no permit, no workman's comp. and you don't want to rent equipment that will allow someone do move the tub safely. Make sure the people that carry it are closely related to you and have good health insurance because your homeowners insurance will probably not cover it. The plywood should not be the issue. The tub feet should rest on full strength joists or solid blocking between those joists. If the hoists do not meet the loading requirement you need to add new joists or sister the old ones. If you don't know how to do that you need to find someone who does. It's usually cheaper to do something right the first time. This is a good project for a DIY forum. Comments (4)In your search, look at the detailed specs of the tub you are considering to find the interior measurements of the tub, not just the exterior. A wider tub may not give you a wider interior for you backside, if you need it. Also, measure yourself from your waist to the floor and look for a tub with that interior measurement. I would also go to a bath showroom and sit in various tubs and find their interior measurements and see how your body size fits in them. For instance: I am 5' 7" and am longer waisted than longer legged I replaced my alcove 60 inch cultured marble jetted tub with a 60 inch free standing slipper tub. While my tub is 30x60 outer dimensions, The actual floor of the tub is 19x43 inches. I can fully extend my legs in my tub and my upper body is rested against the back of the tub. The Kohler Archer alcove 32x60 gives you 45 1/8 floor length and 19 11/16 floor width, whereas the Kohler 32x60 Bellwether has 43 7/8 and 21" width. The Kohler Villager 30x60 gives you 45 inches floor length and a generous 22 inches in width on the floor. So, the narrower tub actually gives you more width inside....See Morelooking for CAST IRON, alcove tub with no apron 60X30
Comments (20)Sorry I never closed the loop on this for so long. It all turned out well in the end. I did accommodate the 32 inches and went with the Kohler Highbridge. It was not a big deal for the workers to get it upstairs although that was something else I read about in terms of cast-iron being a negative. In the end, I’m very happy I went with the cast iron. It was a big learning curve but this tub worked well, I never did find a good solution if I had to go with 30 inches though....See MoreKohler underscore alcove tub 30 x 60 advice
Comments (3)Most of these edges can accommodate no more than 2 bottles, and not very wide ones. Why not install a shower rack that hangs over the shower piping. Keep in mind it can only support so much weight, safely. Alternatively, only place the shampoo bottle in the tub area as needed. You'd hate to have to clean up a leaking shampoo....See MoreJAN MOYER
