Blood moon
Comments (4)The color occurred due to the timing. The sun was rising (or nearly so) and the light from the sun reflected enough to add that color to the moon. If one had seen it about 30 minutes prior, it was just an ordinary lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse is so much easier on the eyes than a solar eclipse. Of course, one has to be up and around for the lunar one. Be careful when observing any solar eclipse, even a partial one can do damage to one's eyes....See MoreFall California Rose Events
Comments (11)Kim, I think Clay is one of that group of instructors, too. At least, last I heard from JD, he was. The San Jose event is fun, and a great rose sale. For those in NoCal, there is the NATIONAL HEIRLOOM EXPO To Be Held On Sept. 10, 11, & 12, 2013 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, Santa Rosa, CA The National Heirloom Exposition is a not-for-profit event centered around the pure food movement, heirloom vegetables, and anti-GMO activism. What could be more appropriate for the Heritage Roses Group? HRG took part in the first event, in September, 2011. The event was great, and our booth was a roaring success. WeâÂÂre excited about repeating our participation this year! The 2012 event, with more than 100 speakers and 300 natural food vendors, was the largest gathering in pure food history " and 2013 could even eclipse that! The Heirloom Expo has gained incredible interest among home growers, farmers, school groups and the general public"so much so that it is being called the âÂÂWorldâÂÂs Fair of Pure FoodâÂÂ! HRG is already listed on the VendorâÂÂs list. Want to come and play? You can find this information in the Gold Coast Heritage Roses Group and National Heritage Roses Group newsletters for July and August. Jeri...See MoreMy 2011 pepper starts
Comments (23)My starts are coming along just fine. I don't know how many I have, somewhere around 60 I would guess. I live in SW Oregon and we are having the coldest - wettest spring since they've been keeping records. Last year we had early summer in April and winter in May. This year...last week there was a winter storm warning on a mountain pass near my house - due to a snow storm that dropped about 18 inches of new snow in two days. I suppose it will warm up someday....See MoreWater wicking stopped?
Comments (33)Heather, dish soap is what is called a 'spreader sticker'. It, and various other things, are used to help chemicals spread and or stick better when applied to plants. Dish soap helps to break surface tension in the reservoir and makes it easier to draw up the wick. Remember, water is a chemical-H2O. Also, I use deli containers for my reservoirs. I have noticed if my wicks are not directly over the holes in the lids, the wicking sometimes stops. I'm not sure what you are using but this may be a factor. Setting your pots into an open container and directly over the water may help with your wicking. A few years back, someone posted a photo of her minis wicked in Mason jelly jars. Beautiful set-up and her violets were blooming like mad! Linda...See More41 North (Zone 7a/b, NE, coastal)
