Comments (4)Oh my goodness, you live near some wonderful daylily gardens in your home state! I don't know how close these are to you but I have visited three of the four gardens listed here and heard great things about the fourth. Ken Begnaud specializes in small and miniature blue eyed daylilies that do well in LA. You should plan to visit their garden and see them in person! Tim Tassin has some super UF and spider cultivars. These first two are AHS Display Gardens Bayou Bend Daylilies, Josh Jacques, 59 Bayou Clear Road, Woodworth, LA 70485 joshjaques@bayoubenddaylilies.com (318) 613-2618 Beau Basin Gardens, Kenneth & Melissa Begnaud, 5237 Moss Street, Lafayette, LA 70507 kwbmgb@cox.net (337) 896-5502 (337) 371-6957 cell Also look up Joe Goudeaus' garden in Baker, LA, just outside of Baton Rouge. Link to his website posted below! Tim Tassin has Day By Daylilies and he is in St. Amant, LA. Here is his website link: http://www.daybydaylilies.com/ Anytime you can visit a garden in person and see the plants growing well, you have an idea of how well something will do in your climate. All four of these folks hybridize and create their daylilies right in your home state, so their plants were bred for your climate and should all do well! Comments (10)Lynxe, I'm not willing to go overboard becaues I've found that the prices always go down with availability. I'm just looking around right now, and really wanting a blue=ish daylily. I really like the lighter shades shown in the photo above of "buyorsell888." I'm finding it on the 'net for $12, but wondering if I should wait and see if I can find a better one. I'm drooling over "Another Day in Paradise" and "Master of Disguise" (see Blue Ridge Daylilies 2011) -- neither of which is a real blue, but with gorgeous blue markings. I'm thinking I might be able to afford them after about ten years, LOL....See Morechinese scribe daylily vs sparks blue bayou
Comments (2)You are talking about two different sets of genetics, as well as daylilies that were hybridized at totally different times. Munson's Chinese Scribe was registered back in 1991, back before anyone had heard of rust and some of Munson's daylilies are described as "rust magnets" in areas of the south. However, I do not know about this one. I did see Sparks Blue Bayou growing in Wayne Taunton's yard back in 2011 at the National Meeting in Baton Rouge. We were there first thing in the morning at it looked great, not muddy at all. However, I daresay no daylily with that coloration would ever look as good in the afternoon sun. One of the parents of SBB is Palace Garden Beauty, which is a good grower here, so that would imply that it would be hardy at least as far as zone 6. The amount of sunlight needed for purples would depend highly on your climate zone. Here in zone 6/7, most can take full sun all day without looking too slicked. In the deep south, those same cultivars might require half shade to look decent past noon!...See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
