I have this plant to and think it's one of the better ones out there. I have two one on the south side of the house and one in a bed on the north side. They both went through a very cold winter here in north Louisiana with no cold damage. But I did damage mine with over fertilizing. The hose end type is what I was using. I believe it was miracle grow. When I use it in the future I will wash the fertilizer out of the center. I don't believe your winter is anything near what I have here. Bob

It is very confusing. It does look like Yucca filamentosa dies after flowering. I have seen the plant completely disappear. And thought I had lost it. But it keeps coming back and in the same spot, not off to the side. According to this article below that is not true. "All but one species (Y. whipplei) can flower many times (polycarpic) and produce side-shoots to compensate for loss of the apical growing point by its conversion into a flower bud. Yucca whipplei is the only one to completely die. It does not produce offshoots but rather sets seeds. Yucca whipplei (Our Lord's Candle) appropriately flowering at Easter in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, April 1995.(see photo) This is the only monocarpic species of Yucca and the flowers are self-fertile. Engelman placed this species in the monotypic genus Hesperoyucca but this synonym does not seem to have been widely adopted. Several subspecies are recognised, of which subsp. whipplei remains as a solitary rosette and so dies after flowering. Other subspecies spread by offsets or via stolons." I'm right up the road (bout an hour) in Cedar Park. We've got what looks like tons of yucca alifolia (Spanish Bayonet), the ones that look like mini palms when they get mature. (Leander specifically has a field of them growing wild) that are about hip-chest high. I haven't seen any as big as the pictures I've seen of 'Buckys Yucca' We have some in the center divide of our drive that our landscapers had completely neglected, so one morning I got up ad 6am and was out pruning the Yuccas in the dark since my husband gets embarrassed by the odd looks. I did the 'pineapple cut' (don't know the technical name, just that the finished collar looks like a pineapple) on them, and the largest one had two pups under it, which I figured I'd wait a few days, since they had little to no sun exposure under the leaves of the parent. Yesterday I separated them off, and transplanted them into my garden facing the road. Now all this rain has me jumping up and down screaming nooooo noooooo!!! I'm scared to death they're going to rot on me. I was hoping fro a few dry days that might get them rooting for me. Is there any way you could go look for a plant with pups on it?
