Comments (13)I repotted in september because I noticed bad drainage during the summer. The plant thrived, the summer heat probably makes it ok for it to be soggy. It's a couple years old and pretty big (didnt easily fit in the doorwall). The soil is miracle gro potting mix and I added extra perlite. I had a pineapple plant in a 1 gallon pot, but as it became enourmous it could not stand itself up and tipped over...it was upsetting because it was a sucker from my neighbors' parents' garden in India. Comments (20)For bay areans wanting to know about Pineapples? Mine are still fine. Even with Oxalis around the largest...no rot or leaf color discoloration. In fact,with all the rains they look darker green in what also has been a historically mild winter then they did in summer. 37f was it and we are back to the 50's for lows. 10b winter. Comments (8)I tried one time and plant did well until I left for vacay. The end. i tried a 2nd time and it rotted from excessive rains. Both were started from pineapple tops. Very easy, but when I can get pineapples at WM for 99 cents I have little incentive to try again. You’ve heard my disillusionment w/ trying to grow edibles and fighting weather/critters.
