ID'ing flowering VS fruiting crabapples?
Comments (4)Almost all crabapples fruit. There's a new white-flowering fruitless variety out, and there may be a few other fruitless types as well. The question is what the fruit would be like. The fruit on many ornamental crabapples is tiny and not particularly tasty. Other ornamental crabapples have tasty fruit. If you only want a little fruit to attract birds, you might look for branches and buds with red coloring, which would indicate that they're not the most common fruitless type, which I think is devoid of red color in the leaves.
