Nasty sink gasket
Comments (18)EmmaR, You are right, the flaps help deflect stuff from flying out. However, I do not continuous feed the disposal anymore, put stuff in disposal and then put the regular sink stopper/strainer in place before turning on. This prevents stuff from flying out and water can flow into the disposal. In my case I have a choice of hiring a plumber to take the disposal out and put a new flap seal or replace the almost new disposal to a tune of many bucks. Either way would be expensive. That is why I resorted to the sink strainer/stopper. I will make sure to choose the next disposal with a removable seal/flap....See More10 best things you ever put in your mouth.
Comments (116)I also wonder about a lot of people who posted on this thread that I have not heard from in many years, but I also noticed that I never posted on this thread, and I can't imagine why. Anyway, I can try to make a list now. I'll number them, but this is just the order in which they come to my mind. 1. seafood gumbo 2. king crab legs (I don't care for lobster and much prefer crab) 3. cherimoya / guanabana (They are very similar to me.) 4. fried okra 5. fried alligator tail 6. fresh coconut or mamey ice cream (my two favorite flavors) 7. chocolate hazelnut Bavarian cream pie 8. chocolate turtles, with caramel made with cream instead of milk 9. Eggplant Parmigiana 10. dragon fruit / pitaya, especially in juice form I am also surprised at how many sweet items I named, since I do not eat many sweets, but maybe that is why they made my list. I have not eaten any of the things on my list in the past month😢, but I hope that will change soon. I don't eat candy as a rule, but it still has to make my list. As an honorable mention, I would like to add the chocolate croissants I got at a French bakery in Copacabana. I especially liked that bakery for breakfast because I could order in French instead of Portuguese....See MoreDo You Remember What The First Thing You Ever Sewed?
Comments (34)I think the first real item I made was a yellow plaid roll-up sleeve blouse in Home Ec. I had no clue that matching plaids would be that involved. Since I was in high school in the 60's I remember making a 2 piece lined wool suit like Jackie Kennedy and of course had the matching pill box hat. Next I made a dress out of a pretty green dotted swiss. We didn't have room to cut out our garments in the Home Ec. cottage so we were taken into the cafeteria to use those tables. When I started making my dress I realized that I had not only lost the back pattern piece to my skirt but also the fabric. My Mother and I went back to the store to buy more but they were out of that color. I ended up replacing the back of my skirt with white organdy and applied a white bow in the back of the waist. What had started out as a rather plain dress became a nice church dress which I wore for quite a while. The dress that gave me such fits turned out to be a favorite of mine. Now I really LOVE to sew and also enjoy "thinking outside the box". Some things are made special because of the work involved. It makes you appretiate the results....See MoreDo you wipe down around your airplane seat?
Comments (47)OMG, wait for this. The irony. Last week I got some sort of insect bite on my right temple. I didn't see an insect or feel a bite, just tenderness, I ignored it. 2 days later it was still bothering me so DH took a pic of it and we went on the internet trying to figure out what the heck might have bitten me. Nothing seemed to match. The evening of the next day, I felt tenderness and swelling on the same side of my face, and determined that there is lymph node in that area and apparently it was swollen. So I decided would call my Dr. the next morning (Saturday) to see if I could be seen (they have Saturday am hours). I woke up and the lymphnode swelling was nearly gone, but I called my Dr. Saturday am anyway. I explained everything ...and they said to take Benadryl. OK. Well, this afternoon my DH told me he just didn't like the look of it (it had gotten very red) and he also thought i was getting a bruise mark under my eye. He insisted either ER or a walk in clinic (my Dr's was closed today). So off we want and guess what ... I have a staph infection! I may or may not have been bitten, any sort of tiny break in the skin is enough, since most of us have these organisms on our skin anyway. I also was visiting Mom in the hospital last week, and I might have contracted it there. While I was at the clinic today, I asked the Dr. about prevention. His 2 cents (and he called it that) was that you cannot entirely prevent these things without living in a bubble, and for most of us most of the time it's not a big deal. He also said that soap and water are vastly superior since they physically wash away and thus remove bacteria. Sanitizers of course try to kill them but not remove them, but many bacterium have become increasingly resistant to alcohol in the past 20 years since sanitizers became popular. In a similar vein, as you may have heard, many infections we used to treat w penicillin now require IV antibiotic. So, ladies, I guess I will be ordering a few cases of these. ; )...See MoreJay 6a Chicago
