Trying to upload my dahlia pics for 1st time. Here goes!
Comments (2)Very nice! But the pic needs to be BIGGER. And it is a must that when you put pics on the forum of such beauties, they have to be identified so we can all be enabled into acquiring them too. :) I love the fluffy yellow one in the middle--could that be Citron du Cap? What about the maroon ones directly behind the yellow and orange waterlily? Actually, I already have Citron du Cap but I got it at an "end-of-the-season" clearance so it was planted too late in my garden to bloom. I think it was about to send up buds when our first cold weather hit and melted them all down like the Wicked Witch of the West. Very nice dahlias you posted. Keep 'em coming! Comments (5)I grew 1/2 pack of these and I love them. The tallest is 38" & they don't need to be staked. The Monarchs adore them, which was a surprise because I have never seen Dahlias on any nectar lists. I don't have any pictures, but I would say the photo above is close, yet not accurate. About 30% had the dark eye and about 50% had the dark foliage, and mine were 100% single flowers. No semidoubles like the photo. I did't get any solid yellow (didn't want 'em anyway). I probably should have sown the whole pack of 100 and then culled all the green ones when they were babies, but I didn't. Some of these were so pretty that I am going to overwinter the tubers. 6 hours of sun is more than enough. I am growing mine in about 4 hours and they're fine. Lime...See MoreCan All Dahlias Be Overwintered?
Comments (2)I would say yes, to the one grown from seed especially, as long as they have produced tubers. I grew some from seed a few years ago, and there are 2 that I simply could not lose - very simple blooms that I named Lipstick, and Burgundy Silk. Can't find those in any catalog - they are stunning!...See MoreI've been waiting for this all summer - first Dahlia of the season
Comments (19)Lovely bloom and I see several more buds. I don't disbub my dahlias though have been told that doing so allows the remaining flowers to get larger. This year some critter is nipping the flower off. I find the flower with barely any stem on the ground. Today I cut the recent bloom shortly after it opened and brought it inside. Planted mine late as well so not many blooms yet. If I have lots of blooms and am expecting a frost I make bouquets to share with my neighbors. Had enough for eight bouquets last fall....See Moregetgoing100_7b_nj
