Structure questions - interior walls
Comments (4)You can use beams and/or posts to open up the stair. The advantage of walls is that they are cheaper and allow greater separation and storage. Don't forget the stair is going up through a floor/ceiling opening so not all of it can be exposed....See MoreQuestion about hiring an interior designer
Comments (9)Unless you have a great deal of money to spend, you are better off doing a lot of the hard work yourself and then hiring someone to help finish things off with panache. Good interior designers cost a fortune- six figures for a living room, for a modest start. Mediocre interior designers cost money too- I have no idea of how much though- but my feeling is that any money spent on a mediocre designer is money that could have been spent on better furniture and finishes. Lay out your wish list. Consult some books and bring the problems here to work out together with this very talented crew. There is not a day that goes by that I am not amazed at how the people on this board work together to create beautiful spaces. Try with one room and see how it goes. People have reported good things from distance consultations with Maria Killam, whose specialty is colors. Google her blog and check out posts about her here on GW. She may be able to give you a good color scheme. Laurel Bern's blog is one of my favorites and she sells color schemes as well. I know it can seem overwhelming, but if money is a concern at all, it seems unproductive to waste it on meh interior designers....See MoreInterior Paint Colors - live on water - HELP!
Comments (2)I think all white is fine. It sounds like you'll have enough color and warm elements to balance it. Worst case, you end up hating it and repaint the walls in a few months (and luckily wall paint is the cheapest and easiest to change). If you're doing matte for the walls, they will need to be perfect because every imperfection will show....See MoreLayout Help. Living room interior help.
Comments (5)Depends on your living pattern. If you like to watch tv while cooking and/or eating, you're pretty much limited to putting it on the fireplace wall as you suggest. If TV time is distinct and separate from cooking/eating time and/or you want the room to be multifunctional, you can put the tv on the wall thst separates the stairs from the family room, along with a small couch and a couple of chairs. Thst creates a distinct "zone" for TV watching and free up the rest of the family room for other uses....See MoreJanice
